    • A press apparatus for reducing widths of hot slabs (7) comprises a pair of anvils (8) movable toward and away from each other in width directions of the hot slabs (7), width reduction heads (6) to which the pair of anvils (8) are attached, respectively, and eccentric presses (2, 3) for reciprocatively driving the width reduction heads (6) through sliders (4), respectively. The apparatus further comprises width adjusting means (5,11,12,13) incorporated in the eccentric presses (2,3), respectively, for changing distances between the width reduction heads (6) and the sliders (4). Each of the anvils (8) has a parallel portion in parallel to a feeding direction of the hot slabs (7) and an inclined portion on an entry side in the feeding direction. With this arrangement, the reducing distance can be set according to the desired distance of reduction in width in continuous width reduction and the reduction in width can be continuously effected with the set reducing distance with high efficiency. The press apparatus preferably further comprises buckling preventing means such as rollers controlled by hydraulic cylinders for urging at least two locations of the slab (7) along a central longitudinal line of the slab (7) and on upstream and downstream sides of a line connecting junctions of the parallel portions and the inclined portions of the anvils (8), thereby preventing any buckling of the slab (7) occurring in reduction in width of the slab (7).

    • PURPOSE:To reduce a crop part at the rear end of a slab and to manufacture a steel sheet in high yield by forming the rear end of the slab to be reduced in width into a shape consisting of a straight part and a slant part before reducing the width of rear end by pressing its both side faces in the sheet width direction of rear end. CONSTITUTION:In reducing the width of a slab throughout its whole length, by transporting the slab, a blank material to be hot rolled, in its longitudinal direction, and pressing both side faces in the width direction of slab by a press tool 3, having a pressing face consisting of a face 3A parallel to the side face and a slant face 3B slanted with respect to the face 3A, by periodically vibrating the tool 3 in the sheet width direction of slab; the side faces of said rear end are previously pressed by another pressing face of tool 3 consisting of a slant face 3D slanted to the slab outlet side and a face 3C parallel to the side face of slab, before reducing the width of the rear end of slab. In this way, an ordinary width reduction is provided to the slab after forming its rear end into the shape consisting of a straight part and a slant part, to reduce the quantity of a crop part and a dog bone generating at the slab rear-end thereby improving the yield in steel sheet manufacturing.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce the number of uses of the same face and to sufficiently cool an anvil by sliding the anvil whose draft face is formed into a cross in the pass line side and turning the anvil by 90 deg. each. CONSTITUTION:Both sides upper and lower hydraulic cylinders 13 are actuated in the inlet side to retract an anvil slider 8 in an opposite side against the pass line side, to position a draft face 2c in an opening 19 of an anvil folder 11, and to position a draft face 2a in the pass line side to prepare a situation of edging anvil cooling headers 20, 21 cool draft faces 2c, 2d. After that, the both sides upper and lower hydraulic cylinders 13 are actuated into the outlet side to move an anvil 1 into the pass line side and to escape the draft face 2c from the opening 19. Then, both sides rotation drivers 15 are actuated to turn a rotating shaft 6 by 90 deg. to shift a draft face 2b from a lower position to the working side. After that, the cylinders 13 are actuated into the inlet side to fit the face 2d in the opening 19 and to cool the faces 2d, 2c with cooling water from the headers 20, 21, respectively.

    • PURPOSE:To surely keep the sheet width accuracy and to improve the product yield by installing correction means of deflection amounts of a spreading rolling mill and of spreading amounts after horizontal rolling and controlling a vibrating position adjuster based on a prediction value of deformation resistance of a rolled stock. CONSTITUTION:An inlet side stock temp. detector 9 and a stock carrying amount detector 10 are installed in the vicinity of a press tool 5 and an adjuster 8 for positions of a vibrator 4 is also installed. A temp. of a spreading stock 1 carried by an inlet side pinch roller 3 is detected by the detector 9, a deformation resistance value 23 proportioning to the detected temp. is calculated, and a rolling load 26 is found based on a drafting area 25 and the resistance value 23. An elongation of a spreading mill itself is calculated based on the spring constant of the mill itself and the adjuster 8 is controlled based on a predicted value of width reducing amount 30 after horizontal rolling. The outlet side sheet width accuracy is surely kept and the product quality and then the product yield are improved because the feedback controls of stock temps. and carrying amounts are performed.
