    • Parameters for operation of a number of vehicle operating subsystems are stored in a vehicle controller and selected to control and configure the operating subsystems. Control and configuration can be based on individual recognized operators of the vehicle or an operating mode can be selected for the vehicle. For example, sport, cruise, luxury, off-road or other performance modes can be set up and selected. If a vehicle is to be operated by an authorized person who is not a recognized operator or is not authorized to select a mode of operation, default operating characteristic parameters are stored and selected. If the authorized person is to be restricted in the possible operation of the vehicle, a further set of limited operating characteristic parameters are stored and selected, preferably by entry of control signals corresponding to a security code. For example, if a valet is parking the vehicle, the limited operating parameters are selected. For security purposes, the limited operating parameters can be invoked after a defined period of time. Diagnostic and maintenance of the vehicle is provided by monitoring at least the operating subsystems connected to the vehicle controller and recording diagnostic data. The controller communicates accumulated data to a service center on a periodic or as needed basis for analysis by the service center. The service center in turn communicates with the controller regarding service needed by the vehicle. The controller then advises operators of the vehicle of the information received from the service center.

    • A vehicle control and interconnection system comprises a vehicle interconnection component and a software component. The vehicle interconnection component communicably couples to a corresponding portable electronic processing device when the portable electronic processing device is suitably positioned within a corresponding vehicle. The vehicle interconnection component further couples to a vehicle subsystem within the vehicle. The software component is downloaded into the corresponding portable electronic processing device, and implements a supervisory controller, a vehicle interface and a user interface. The supervisory controller provides control information that is utilized by the vehicle subsystem connected through the vehicle interconnection component to implement a customized vehicle configuration. The vehicle interface communicates the control information from the supervisory controller to the vehicle subsystem component through the vehicle interconnection component. The user interface couples to an input device and a display to provide a common interface for the device coupled to the vehicle interconnection component.

    • An integrated system to control peripherals in a vehicle includes a control and interconnection system having a supervisory processor and/or supervisory control. The control and interconnection system is responsive to feedback from peripherals associated with the vehicle. Moreover, the supervisory processor supervises a plurality of peripherals in communication with the control and interconnection system, where at least one of the plurality of the peripherals includes a controller and is associated with at least one of the: vehicle dynamics, vehicle power train and vehicle body, of a corresponding vehicle. Still further, the supervisory processor provides control information to each of the plurality of peripherals to coordinate performance characteristics based upon at least one operating condition that is determined by the control and interconnection system.

The associated information processing workspace for the peripherals is configured if required, a verifying operation of the peripherals with the control and interconnection system is performed and the peripherals are authorized as approved peripherals. To integrate the peripherals into the system, design tools assist the developer in configuring an associated information processing workspace, setting up operating conditions or performing other integration tasks.

    • Provided is a sign holder for mounting to and displaying from a shelf any of various planar signs. The sign holder includes a clamp having two pivotally-connected panels that can be placed into a clamping position to hold the planar sign. To hold the panels in the clamping position, the first panel includes a holding prong that can be received in a corresponding aperture of the second panel. To prevent the planar sign from slipping between the panels, the second panel includes a piercing prong that can pierce the planar sign and be received in a corresponding aperture of the first panel. So that the planar material does not interfere with the engagement between the holding prong and its corresponding aperture, the piercing prong can be spaced-apart from the pivotally-connected edges of the panels a greater distance than the holding prong is. Various mounting structures can be included.

    • A vehicle control and interconnection system comprises a vehicle interconnection component and a supervisory controller. The vehicle interconnection component communicably couples to a portable electronic processing device and to native electronic peripherals of a corresponding vehicle, including a display. The supervisory controller provides control information to at least one native electronic peripheral to implement a customized vehicle configuration such that a corresponding peripheral or group of peripherals respond to control commands from the vehicle interconnection component in a coordinated manner. Also, the portable electronic processing device is programmed via a software download to implement a user interface that interacts with the display of the corresponding vehicle to provide information to the vehicle operator where at least part of the processing is carried out on the portable electronic processing device. Yet further, software modifications are wirelessly received via a transceiver and are processed through the vehicle interconnection component.
