    • A manually operated implement such as a chain saw, a parting-off grinder or similar device has an internal combustion engine to drive a tool and a handle arrangement to operate the implement. The handle arrangement is connected to the internal combustion engine via a vibration damping system, the vibration damping system comprising at least one anti-vibration element. In order to achieve good vibration damping and sufficient operational rigidity in all operating ranges, in at least one direction of vibration in a predetermined frequency range the anti-vibration element has a first characteristic curve in a first state and a second characteristic curve in a second state and the anti-vibration element can be switched between the first state and the second state.

    • A two-stroke engine has a cylinder wherein a piston is journalled for reciprocating movement. The piston delimits a combustion chamber configured in the cylinder. The engine has an outlet from the combustion chamber and a transfer channel which opens at an inlet opening into the crankcase and at a transfer window in the combustion chamber. The piston drives a crankshaft via a connecting rod. The crankshaft is rotatably journalled in the crankcase. At least one control element for the inlet opening is connected to the crankshaft so as to rotate therewith.The control element is so arranged that the inlet opening is at least partially closed thereby in at least one operating state of the engine during the downward stroke of the piston at least 5° crankshaft angle after the opening of the transfer window.

    • A method for generating polarized laser output radiation utilizes a laser resonator whose active medium exhibits thermally induced birefringence. The radiation fields oscillating in the laser resonator are not subjected to polarization selection, and only the radiation field exhibiting the desired polarization state (p) is partially output. Only a prescribed polarization of the radiation fields of the laser radiation which can oscillate in the resonator can be partially output from the resonator with a prescribed output level and all differently polarized radiation fields remain in the resonator in a completely reflecting fashion.
