    • A method is provided for controlling a driving distance between a host vehicle and a first vehicle driving in front of the host vehicle, the host vehicle driving at a driving speed and at the driving distance to the first vehicle. The host vehicle includes a system for controlling the driving distance and a fuel saving system, wherein the system for controlling the driving distance is adapted to retain the driving distance at not less than a preset minimum safety distance, and wherein the fuel saving system includes an automatic speed increasing function which in case of fulfillment of a set of conditions automatically increases the driving speed in order to utilize kinetic energy inherent in the host vehicle to save fuel. The method includes retrieving information that the set of conditions is fulfilled such that the activation of the automatic speed increasing function is enabled, generating an altered safety distance by altering the preset safety distance by an offset distance, and if the driving distance is less than the altered safety distance, adapting the driving speed until the altered safety distance is reached, whereafter activation of the automatic speed increasing function is allowable, and, upon the activation, resetting the preset minimum safety distance such that the offset distance is available during the activity of the speed increasing function.

    • A method for controlling a cruise control operable to maintain a set speed of a vehicle according to a plurality of goal droop curves is provided. The goal droop curves include: an isochronous droop curve; a top droop curve; and a bottom droop curve. The method includes performing command according to the droop curves; registering that the vehicle soon will enter an uphill slope; estimating in a vehicle position before entering the uphill slope if a downshift in a transmission of the vehicle will occur when traveling the uphill slope during a coming time period (testimation); if the downshift is estimated to occur then performing a fuel saving action during the time period in order to avoid the downshift. The fuel saving action is one of an adaptation of transmission downshifting limits or to during the time period performing command according to a second isochronous curve.

    • A method and a vehicle transmission for selecting a starting gear in a vehicle are provided, the method including steps of measuring a starting gear selection parameter, and selecting a starting gear for the next coming vehicle take-off in dependence of the measured starting gear selection parameter, wherein the starting gear selection parameter is the number of vehicle take offs per time unit. Additionally the parameter can be acceleration in movement of an accelerator pedal being depressed by a driver, accelerator pedal position and clutch wear. Benefits are increased clutch endurance for a vehicle that during at least a period has to perform frequent take-offs and at the same time enhancing take-off comfort for a vehicle that during at least a period goes long-distance.
