    • A light guiding bar includes first and second light incident portions, a light exit portion and a reflecting portion. The first and second light incident portions are at opposite ends of the light guiding bar and receive light. The light exit portion extends in a first direction, and partially totally reflects and partially emits the light according to an incident angle. The reflecting portion extends in the first direction, is adjacent to the light exit portion and includes a plurality of reflecting surfaces. Each of the reflecting surfaces has a wedge shape and reflects the light in a direction inclined with respect to a second direction substantially perpendicular to the first direction. The light incident into the first and second light incident portions and directly on the light exit portion is totally reflected by the light exit portion.

    • A display device and a method of checking signals input to a display device. The display device includes a signal identifying unit, a signal checking unit, and a signal changing unit. The signal identifying unit receives an input signal and identifies the type of input signal that is received. The signal checking unit checks whether the identified input signal is abnormal. The signal changing unit switches from the checked input signal to a next input signal to be checked so that the signal checking unit can check whether the next input signal is abnormal, after the signal checking unit checks whether the input signal is abnormal. Accordingly, when a display device goes to an abnormal mode, one of input signals can be checked in the display device to automatically change to another signal according to the order of checking the signals, the time required to check the signals, and the number of times the signals are checked without manipulating an additional key.

    • A display apparatus having a display to display a picture thereon comprises a pivot sensor comprising a weight body, a housing in which the weight body is accommodated and movable as the display is pivoted, and a contact sensor placed in the housing and generating a sensing signal according to a pivoted angle of the display when contacting the weight body. A pivot sensing controller applies a predetermined driving voltage to the pivot sensor, and determines the pivot angle of the display on the basis of the sensing signal generated corresponding to the applied driving voltage. The pivot sensing apparatus requires a reduced number of pivot sensors and peripheral circuits to sense a pivot angle of a display panel. A display apparatus and system comprising the pivot sensing apparatus, and a method for sensing a pivot angle, are also disclosed.

    • An apparatus and method for displaying the status of a current display power management signaling (DPMS) mode in a display device uses an on-screen display (OSD) circuit. The current DPMS mode is determined based on an input status of video sync signals and the connection of a signal cable. The current DPMS mode status data is stored in an internal memory of a microcomputer. The OSD circuit is driven using an OSD drive signal output from the microcomputer, so that a message indicative of the stored status data can be momentarily displayed on the display device. In a DPMS mode, any front panel key acts as a program interrupt for DPMS mode operation, which, upon activation, initiates a sequence whereby the DPMS mode is set to normal, horizontal and vertical sync signals are generated, the stored DPMS mode status data is read, and an OSD drive signal is generated. After a time sufficient for user recognition of the current DPMS mode, the OSD drive signal is discontinued and the DPMS mode is reset.
