    • An anti-clockspringing mechanism for a web-roll comprises a unitary lock member having a cylindrical body rotatably mounted in a sidewall of the cartridge. A flange on a web-spool on which the web-roll is wound is provided with an annular lip having alternately spaced lugs and notches. The body has a handle on one side thereof extending toward the exterior of the cartridge, and a lock member on the opposite side of the body extending into the interior cavity of the cartridge. The lock member is in alignment with a sector of the annular lip and lies in the plane of the annular lip. The lock member further comprises at least one shoulder projecting from the opposite side of the body. The lock member is moveable between an unlocked position, in which the shoulder is withdrawn from a lip notch and is out of alignment with the lip lugs for allowing the web-spool to freely rotate, and a locked position in which the shoulder is in alignment with the lip and nests within a lip notch in a position transverse to the lip lugs for preventing or blocking the web-spool from rotating.

    • An x-ray film cassette having a base and a cover adapted to close upon the base. The cover is provided with an identification window. A pressure plate is secured within the cassette. The cover, pressure plate and base form a light-tight space for receiving a sheet of x-ray film. The pressure plate is also provided with an identification window which is in substantial alignment with the identification window of the cover. A light-tight slideable window shutter is provided for covering of the identification window of the cover and/or the pressure plate. The slideable window shutter, when in a first position, provides a light-tight seal against the windows and when in a second position allows information to be provided to an x-ray film contained within the cassette. An indicator assembly is secured to the pressure plate and is at least partially visible through the cover for indicating when film is present within the cassette and for indicating when the window shutter has been opened.

    • A cassette for a photographic element of the kind used in computed radiography comprises a first cassette portion and a second cassette portion that are telescoped together during assembly to form the cassette. The first portion has a rectangular panel and edge walls extending around three side edges of the panel. The second cassette portion comprises a rectangular panel on which the photographic element is permanently secured. An edge wall is attached to one side edge only of the rectangular panel of the second cassette portion and it extends between the edge walls of the first cassette portion when the two portions are assembled together. A locking mechanism carried by the cassette portions holds them together in assembled relation but is easily released by an actuator for removing the second cassette portion and the photographic element so they can be delivered together to a computed radiography reader.

    • A film cassette is disclosed wherein a film spool having a film roll coiled about it is rotated in an unwinding direction to advance a leading section of the film roll into and through a film passage slit to the outside of the cassette shell. The film spool includes a pair of annular constraining lips coaxially disposed on the spool core to space the outermost convolution of the film roll from an interior curved wall of the cassette shell. The leading section of the film roll is tapered asymetrically and is relatively short to allow it to protrude from between the constraining lips and into slight contact with the shell wall.When the film spool is initially rotated in the unwinding direction, the spool core is rotated relative to the constraining lips until there results a firm non-slipping relation between the outermost convolution and the lips, to thus cause the lips to be rotated thereafter with the spool core. The non-slipping relation imparts a beam strength to the leading section of the film roll which, when the film spool is rotated in the unwinding direction, combines with the asymetric design of the leading section to increase the likelihood that the leading section will feed into the film passage slit.

    • A device for embossing Braille characters on an embossable substrate includes a embossing wheel and an anvil. The head containing a series of locations. The locations contain a combination of pins or divots and are configured to print one or more columns of a Braille cell. The anvil is configured with a series of grooves for mating with the pins of the embossing wheel. Embossing occurs when the anvil or embossing wheel is moved against the other and the embossable substrate is made to conform to the depressions in the locations where a pin on the embossing wheel is positioned.
