    • An actuation assembly (100, 300) for actuating a downhole tool (200) having a tool housing (202) and an actuation member (208). The actuation assembly (100, 300) includes a downhole power unit (100) and a stroke extender (300). A power unit housing (150) is operably associated with an extender housing (302). A moveable shaft (130) of the power unit (100) is operably associated with an extender mandrel (304). The extender housing (302) is operably associated with the tool housing (202) and the actuation member (208). The extender mandrel (304) is operably associated with the actuation member (208) such that oscillatory movement of the moveable shaft (130) relative to the power unit housing (150) causes oscillatory movement of the extender mandrel (304) relative to the extender housing (302) which causes progressive movement in one direction of the actuation member (208) relative to the tool housing (202), thereby actuating the downhole tool (200).

    • Certain aspects and embodiments of the present invention are directed to a dual closure system disposed within a wellbore and capable of preventing the production of fluids from a fluid-producing formation to the surface. The dual closure system can include a passive closure mechanism and a subsurface safety valve coupled to an electric submersible pump positioned within a passageway defined by the tubing string. The passive closure mechanism and the subsurface safety valve can prevent production of fluid in the absence of the subsurface safety valve. The subsurface safety valve can be positioned within a passageway defined by a tubing string such that the subsurface safety valve can apply force to the passive closure mechanism. The force applied to the passive closure mechanism can maintain the passive closure mechanism in an open position, allowing movement of fluid to the surface in the presence of the active closure mechanism.

    • An improved coiled tubing pulling tool and methods of using the pulling tool for pulling a well tool from a well bore, relocating a well tool in the well bore and performing other similar operations. The pulling tool is basically comprised of an elongated inner mandrel having an axial fluid flow passageway therethrough adapted to be connected to a length of coiled tubing, a latching mandrel connected at the end of the inner mandrel having a fluid flow passageway therethrough and having a fishing nose thereon, a tubular piston member slidably extending over the inner mandrel which is movable by fluid pressure in a direction away from the fishing nose, a first spring disposed between the inner mandrel and the piston member for urging the piston member in a direction towards the fishing nose, a latching device disposed on the latching mandrel connected to the piston member before latching the pulling tool to a fishing neck of a well tool and a releasing system for unlatching the pulling tool when sufficient fluid pressure is applied to the pulling tool to overcome the spring and move the piston member away from the fishing nose.

    • Certain aspects and features are directed to an electric subsurface safety valve including an integrated communications system that can be disposed in a wellbore. The electric subsurface safety valve can include a body adapted to be coupled to a cable, a communications system disposed in the body, and a closure mechanism. The body can be disposed within the wellbore. The communications system can include one or more transceiving devices and a processing device. The transceiving devices can communicate signals via the cable to a rig at the surface and can wirelessly communicate signals to target tool in the well system. The processing device can process signals received by the one or more transceiving devices for communication via the cable. The closure mechanism can be positioned in a passageway defined by the wellbore and can control a flow of fluid to through the passageway.
