    • The present invention relates to a novel insecticidal protein named XnGroEL isolated and purified from Xenorhabdus nematophila having GENE BANK ACCESSION No. AY18449. The process for the purification of novel insecticidal protein named XnGroEL is also disclosed. The invention also relates to the process for preparation and purification of the recombinant novel insecticidal XnGroEL protein. The process involves purification of a novel insecticidal protein Xenorhabdus nematophila, construction of genomic DNA library, screening of library using probes with N-terminal amino acid sequence, cloning in an expression vector followed by its transformation in E. coli cells and purification of the recombinant protein. Both the novel native and recombinant insecticidal XnGroEL protein have growth inhibitory and insecticidal property for Helico?erpa armigera larvae. The present invention also discloses that the novel native and recombinant insecticidal XnGroEL protein has larval gut brush border membrane vesicles binding activity and a-chitin binding activity.
