    • PURPOSE:To reduce the quantity of waste which is formed into a solid in a waste disposal process, by a method wherein a nitric acid collected from a nuclear fuel reprocessing process is led to an electrolytic cell and electrolysis is executed under the condition that the concentration of HNO3 in an electrolytic solution is not below 5M. CONSTITUTION:A direct current is supplied to an electrolytic cell 1 from a constant- current constant-volage device 2 and electrolysis is executed with platinum used as the material of an anode 11 and graphite as the material of a cathode 12. An electrolytic solution is made to circulate between the cell and a tank 4 by a circulation pump 3. A gas produced from the anode 11 is released in the tank 4, an N2 gas is supplied to the tank 4 and the produced gas is taken out. While the flow rate of the gas is measured by a flowmeter 5, the gas is diluted with the N2 gas and the composition and concentration of the gas are measured by an NOx meter 6. In order to produce an NOx gas selectively, the concentration of a nitric acid being an object of electrolysis needs to be selected at a high value of about 5 to 6 M or above. A scrubber 7 is provided in the preceding stage of release of the gas into the outdoor air and a water solution of Na2CO3 is stored therein.
