    • PURPOSE: To reduce thermal strain or the like of a coated tube and contrive long life of a control rod by mounting a dual cylindrical coated tube of neutron absorption housing on a support plate. CONSTITUTION: An outer tube 107 is threadedly engaged with the lower end of an inner tube 106, and a neutron absorption material 110 is housed in a sectional ring-like space between the outer tube 107 and the inner tube 106. The upper part of the space is closed with an upper cap 108, which is fixed by a fixed screw 109 on the upper part of the inner tube 106. The cap 108 and the outer tube 107 are an engaged part for absorbing thermal expansion of the upper and lower directions of the outer tube 107. At the time of quick insertion of a control rod, each control rod element 100 receives radiation heat of high temperature from a rector core insertion hole and is heated at the high temperature by heat conduction through a coolant. But, since the control rod is constituted by a mechanical means wherein each engaged part is threadedly engaged, the deterioration of quality of the whole of the control rod does not exist and the strength of a welding part need not be considered. In addition, the production of plastic strain can be reduced considerably and the long life of the control rod is possible.

    • PURPOSE: To prevent the breakage of a neutron absorber caused by the stroke of a valve element so as to execute a smooth advance and retreat test by providing a protective cylinder for surrounding the valve element in such a manner as to advance and retreat only the valve element at the time of testing the advance and retreat of the valve element. CONSTITUTION: A hopper opening 15 is provided with a valve element sliding part 20 for promoting the advance and retreat of a valve element 17, and a protective cylinder 24 for preventing the breakage of a neutron absorber 15 at the time of testing the advance and retreat of the valve element 17. At the time of an advance and retreat test, the rotating force from a driving mechanism is given to a connecting shaft 18, and the valve element 17 is stroked from the opening position. In the case of an emergency accident such as a failure in inserting a control driving rod in a reactor core, first the valve element 17 is stroked, and when the stroke of the valve element 17 reaches the top dead center, pressing force is applied from the valve element 17 to the projecting piece 25 of the protective cylinder 24. By the above pressing force, both the valve element 17 and the protective cylinder 24 make co-operating stroke to a distance L1 to open the hopper opening 16 so that a neutron absorber 15 is delivered to the reactor core through a guide pipe 13.
