    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wire rod which is free from disconnection even if it is elongated by severe digressive and plastic works, has a high critical magnetic field, and is superior in distortion resistance by constituting a wire rod in such a state that an Nb-Al bond integral composite sheet which is composed of an Nb sheet and an Al sheet of a prescribed molecular weight ratio is wound around an Nb rod. SOLUTION: An Nb sheet layer 1 is cladded on both surfaces of an Al sheet layer 2 so that an Nb-Al bond integral composite sheet composed of an Nb-Al 3-layer clad sheet 4 is provided. This composite sheet can be formed by welding or sticking the Nb sheet to the Al sheet by adhesive. In this case, it is preferable that the thicknesses of the Nb sheet and the Al sheet are so constituted as to be Nb/Al=3.0-4.5/1 in terms of the molecular weight ratio. This Nb-Al 3-layer clad sheet 4 is wound around the Nb rod by being used as a forming material of Nb3 Al and the obtained Nb-Al composite sheet winding wire body is degressively and plastically worked to be a wire rod, heat treated, and diffusedly reacted so that the Nb3 Al based superconducting wire can be provided.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lower the rate of severance of a superconductive wire in the stretching process to a great extent by subjecting the surface of sub-element wires to a chemical polishing process, reducing thereby the thickness of the oxide film on the sub-element wire surfaces, and at the same time, precluding inclusion of foreign mater in the outer layer. SOLUTION: In manufacturing a stabilized copper matrix Nb-Ti superconductive wire, first an Nb-Ti filament is put in a copper pipe so that a single-core billet is assembled. This is extruded and stretched so that it has a hexagonal section, and the resultant is cut into one-meter lengths so that sub-element wires 4 consisting of Nb-Ti filaments 1 and copper 2 are constructed. The surfaces of these sub-element wires 4 are subjected to defatting treatment, water rinse, and a treatment with a chemical polishing liquid prepared by adding an oxidating agent such as hydrogen peroxide to a water solution of acid or alkaline nature, which is followed by another water rinse and drying. A large number of such sub-element wires 4 are set in an outer layer pipe 5 together with the copper pipe 3 so that a multi-core billet is produced, which is subjected to the specified plastic processing. Accordingly the rate of severance in the wire stretching process is lowered to a great extent.
