    • In a vibration wave driven motor wherein an AC electric field is applied to an electro-mechanical energy conversion element secured to an elastic member to thereby excite a plurality of standing waves differing in phase from each other in the elastic member and a travelling wave is formed in the elastic member by the combination of the standing waves, whereby a member which is in pressure contact with the elastic member and the elastic member are moved relative to each other by a frictional force, provision is made of means for making the contact pressure on the surface of contact between the elastic member and the member which is in pressure contact with the elastic member non-uniform, and means for making the dynamic rigidity of a vibration member non-uniform in an unnecessary vibration mode created by the means for making the contact pressure non-uniform, whereby the occurrence of noise is prevented by simple and inexpensive means.

    • Provided are a motor driving method, a program therefor, and a motor driving apparatus which can shorten starting time of a vibration wave motor. A driving circuit of the vibration wave motor includes a control unit. The control unit controls two-phase driving voltages applied to an electro-mechanical energy conversion element of the vibration wave motor. The control unit controls a phase difference between the two-phase driving voltages to drive a driven member at a predetermined speed in a fixed state of frequencies of the two-phase driving voltages. In this case, when the phase difference is set outside a predetermined range, the control unit changes the frequencies of the two-phase driving voltages.

    • A rotation information record surface of a rotary disk is disposed at an intermediate position between a fixing point of the rotary disk and a rotary shaft and a fixing position of a detection head, so that a stable gap can be obtained with a variation due to thermal expansion being reduced. In order to attain this, the fitting portion of the rotary disk is shaped to have a first fitting portion and a second fitting portion. The first fitting portion is provided for attaining satisfactory coaxiality, and the second fitting portion is adapted to form a clearance into which bonding means such as an adhesive is to be infused. With the above structure, an optimum detection position (i.e. an optimum gap position) would not be varied by a change in the ambient temperature.

    • The present invention relates to a control device for vibration type actuator and, particularly, to an arrangement for forming a driving signal by using a pulse signal. In the invention, a periodic pulse is formed by integral multiplying of a period of a reference pulse, analog signals of first and second values are formed at each period of the periodic pulse, an analog signal of third value between the first and second values is formed in a short time, the analog signals are input to a low-pass filter so as to convert the signals to pulse signals by comparing the outputs of the low-pass filter with reference valves, and thereby the formed driving signal includes frequencies at higher resolution than that of the reference pulse so that the control device provides a drive with higher precision.
