    • The method comprises heating a liquid hydrocarbon feedstock containing sulfur-containing compounds by indirect heat exchange with a hot stream, introducing the feedstock into a desulfurization unit, evaporating the feedstock by indirect heat exchange with the hot stream, subjecting the evaporated feedstock to an autothermal reforming in the presence of water and a source of oxygen and introducing the obtained stream into a reactor for converting carbon monoxide with water to reduce the content of carbon monoxide in the hydrogen-rich gas that is produced. The method comprises heating a liquid hydrocarbon feedstock containing sulfur-containing compounds by indirect heat exchange with a hot stream comprising the stream that exits from the autothermal reformer cooled by heat exchange with other streams, the stream that exits from the reactor for converting carbon monoxide with water, and the stream that exits from the reactor for converting carbon monoxide previously cooled by heat exchange with one or more other streams, introducing the feedstock into a desulfurization unit, evaporating the feedstock by indirect heat exchange with the hot stream that exits from the autothermal reformer, subjecting the evaporated feedstock to an autothermal reforming in the presence of water and a source of oxygen, to produce a hydrogen-rich gaseous stream, and introducing the obtained stream into a reactor for converting carbon monoxide with water so as to reduce the content of carbon monoxide in the hydrogen-rich gas that is produced. The temperature of the liquid hydrocarbon feedstock at the outlet of the heat exchanger (105) of the heating step is 60-150[deg] C. The temperature of the evaporated hydrocarbon feedstock at the outlet of the heat exchanger of the evaporating step is 300-400[deg] C. The temperature of the hydrogen-rich gaseous stream at the outlet of the autothermal reforming reactor (115) in the subjecting step is 300-725[deg] C. The desulfurization unit contains a catalyst comprising a support and an element, in which 30 wt.% of the element is reduced to metallic state, and an adsorbent located upstream of the catalyst. The process comprises adding a stream of water in liquid form to the liquid hydrocarbon feedstock that exits from the desulfurization reactor between the introducing and evaporating steps. An independent claim is included for an installation for reforming a liquid hydrocarbon feedstock.
