SOLUTION: In this elevator device, a car 1 and a counterweight 12 suspended by a rope 5 in a hoistway are driven by a long body hoist 10. The elevator device comprises sash pulleys suspending the car 1 and the counterweight 12 by roping of n: 1 (n is the natural number of three or more) and attached to the car 1 and the counterweight 12; return pulleys installed in the hoistway and changing the direction of the rope, and a drive sheave 11 which is attached to the long body hoist 10 and around which the rope 5 is wrapped. At least one of the return pulleys around which the rope 5 is wrapped between the drive sheave 11 and the sash pulley of the car 1 has a diameter different from that of the drive sheave 11.
