    • PURPOSE:To increase a switching surge resistance quantity by permitting a resistor to contain silicon dioxide and at least one of the following; zinc oxide, magnesium oxide, aluminum oxide, yttrium oxide, gallium oxide, indium oxide. CONSTITUTION:A linear resistor is composed of zinc oxide as the major ingredient and magnesium oxide 0.1-10mol%, 0.1-20mol% of at least one of the following; aluminum oxide, yttrium oxide, gallium oxide, indium oxide, and silicon dioxide 1-2mol% are added (a high-resistance segregation layer is not provided between zinc oxide). The linear resistor is a composite sintered body composed of a crystal grain composed of zinc oxide and a crystal grain which has electric resistance of 100OMEGA-4X10 OMEGA, and an intercrystalline layer which has lower electric resistance than a zinc oxide grain is provided between the zinc oxide crystal grains. Thus, the small excellent linear resistor, which allows large switching surge quantity, small voltage non-linear coefficient of a voltage/current characteristic and a positive resistance temperature coefficient, is provided.

    • PURPOSE:To make the setting of a piston ring ever so easy, by dividedly combining the piston ring of ceramics of an engine whose piston and cylinder consist of a ceramics sintered body each. CONSTITUTION:A piston ring is manufactured in the following process that B4C of 0.5wt% and carbon of 1wt% are added to submicron SiC and mixed altogether and, after molding the mixture into desired form, it is burned at a temperature of 2,200 deg.C in a nonoxidation ambience for 30min long, then its surface is ground with a diamond wheel. This piston ring is divided into two parts, and it is designed so as to be slidable at an oblique contact part being halved so that not only it can be easily installed in a piston but also airtightness can be amply kept up.
