      SOLUTION: A sealing substrate 3 has a recess 11 in which a jetty 10 is formed at the periphery opposing to an element substrate 1 and in which a space 9 is formed between the sealing substrate 3 and a display part constituted of an organic EL element 2, corner regions 8 in which four sides of a recess part 11 intersect are made to form a flat face shape protruded outside in the direction separating from the display region, and an application type moisture absorbing material 4 is formed at the border of the recess part 11, as seen from the sealing substrate 3 side, a gap is installed between the corner of the display region and the application type moisture absorbing material 4.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL display device in which a large amount of moisture absorbent is formed in a limited narrow region and in which the stability of characteristics of an organic EL element is realized.
      SOLUTION: The device is equipped with a rectangular element substrate, having a display region in which a plurality of light-emitting elements are arranged, and a sealing substrate fixed and adhered to the element substrate via a sealing material in a jetty formed at a periphery edge opposed to the element substrate. The moisture absorbent, formed in a region which is in a recessed face, surrounded by the jetty of the sealing substrate and which is not overlapped with the display region, contains a moisture absorbent comprising a set of a plurality of linear patterns which are connected to neighboring other moisture absorbents and arranged in parallel, and the cross-sectional shape of the direction crossing its longitudinal direction has a plurality of mutually continuous ranges of mounds.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reliable organic electroluminescent display device capable of preventing deterioration due to the influence of moisture, and to manufacture the organic electroluminescent display device more easily and inexpensively.
      SOLUTION: A frame-like frame body 7 having liquid-repellent properties is formed around the outer-periphery surface of a flat sealing substrate 6 that opposes a flat element substrate 1; a moisture-absorbing material solution is applied to the inside of the flat sealing substrate 6 surrounded by the frame body 7; and a layer 8 containing a moisture absorbing substance is formed by curing. The outer periphery of the liquid-repellent frame body 7 is coated with a sealing material 9, the layer 8 containing the moisture-absorbing substance is bonded to an organic electroluminescent element 5 of the flat element substrate 1 opposingly, and the sealing material 9 is cured for sealing.
