SOLUTION: The projection type display device is equipped with: a light source; a liquid crystal panel; an integrator comprising a first lens array and a second lens array and uniformly illuminating the liquid crystal panel; the projection lens for enlarging and projecting an optically modulated image by the liquid crystal panel onto a screen; and the luminous flux control means for controlling luminous flux made incident on the integrator from the light source between the light source and the integrator. Therein, the incident luminous flux from the peripheral part of a reflection mirror of the light source among the incident luminous flux from the light source to the integrator is shielded by a luminous flux controlling means.
