    • Disclosed in an optical switching connector provided with a first and second ferrule disposed with end faces thereof abutting on each other and two reference pins disposed in parallel at a predetermined interval. The first and second ferrules have two parallel pin holes, respectively. The two reference pins are inserted in the pin holes. The pin holes have an elongated sectional shape enabling the reference pins to move laterally by exactly a certain movement pitch. The first and second ferrules are able to be positioned at one position determined by one of the inside surfaces of the pin holes being pressed against the reference pins and another position determined by the other inside surfaces of the pin holes being pressed against the reference pins. One of the first and second ferrules has fixed in it two or more optical fibers at a pitch of 1/n (n being a positive integer) of the above-mentioned certain movement pitch, while the other ferrule has fixed in it one or more optical fibers so to correspond with all or part of the same.

    • The invention is directed to a method of manufacturing an optical connector according to which it is possible to adjust a projection length a bare optical fiber (7) projects from a connection end surface (3) of a ferrule (1). At a step (a), an optical fiber cored line (5) is inserted through and attached to an optical fiber insertion hole (4) of the ferrule (1), and the bare optical fiber (7) and the ferrule (1) are bonded to each other by hardening a heat-hardening adhesive (11) at a first hardening temperature. Next, at a step (b), the connection end surface (3) is ground so that the connection end surface (3) becomes flat and flush with a tip surface of the bare optical fiber (7). Following this, at a step (c), the heat-hardening adhesive (11) is heated again to be hardened at a temperature which is higher than the first hardening temperature, so that a tip of the bare optical fiber (7), causing pistoning due to the reheat hardening, projects from the connection end surface (3). The quantity of the projection is adjusted by controlling one or both of the rehardening temperature and a holding time at the rehardening temperature.

    • An optical connector for making connection with a connecting partner side and releasing this connection is provided. The optical connector has an optical connector housing. The optical connector housing is formed by inserting a slider into a base end wall of an arm side member so as to be freely advanced and retreated. A cam following face is formed on an inner wall face of an arm portion of the arm side member. A claw portion is formed on a tip side of the arm portion. An opening angle driving cam member is connected to a tip side of the slider. A ferrule is arranged between the arm portions on a forward side of the opening angle driving cam member. When the slide is moved backward, the opening angle driving cam member is moved backward and is operated to angularly open the arm portion through the cam following face. This opening angle state is maintained by making the opening angle driving cam member abut on a stationary face of the cam following face. The claw portion is dislocated from an engaging position with the connecting partner side by the angular opening of the arm portion so that the connection of the optical connector is released.
