    • An injection molding apparatus and method for multi-layer molding of preforms and closures has a central melt channel, an annular melt channel radially spaced from the central melt channel, and an annular ring channel surrounding the central melt channel. The central melt channel has a first portion for flow of a first material, a second portion for flow of the first material and a second material, and a flow extension connecting the first portion and the second portion. The flow extension has a flow opening in communication with the annular ring channel for flow of the second material. The apparatus and method also include a cavity for receiving flow of the first material and the second material from the central melt channel, and for receiving flow of the first material from the annular melt channel. In addition, the apparatus and method include a melt passage having a first melt portion in communication with the central melt channel, and a second melt portion in communication with the annular melt channel.

    • A method, molding device and vehicle component (10) provide for minimized sink marks (30) caused by structural ribs (28) in the molding process. Molten material is injected into a first mold cavity to form a primary vehicle component part (20) having structural ribs (28) on a back side. Typically, sink marks (30) may develop at a front surface of the primary vehicle component part (20), located opposite to the structural ribs (28) on the back side. Molten material is injected into a second molding cavity that is arranged to overmold the front surface (26) of the primary vehicle component part (20) and to cover sink marks (30), if any, in the front surface (26). In this manner, a vehicle component (10) is manufactured with structural ribs (28) and without visible sink marks (30).

    • A multilayer injection nozzle assembly, for use with an injection molding machine, to form a multilayer injection molded article comprising an inner nozzle, a middle nozzle and an outer nozzle. The inner nozzle has a first hole which communicates with a first channel in the inner nozzle and for receiving a flow of a first material from the injection molding machine. The inner nozzle also has a second hole which communicates with a second channel in the inner nozzle for receiving a flow of a second material from the injection molding machine. The first channel communicates with an inner and an outer channel in the inner nozzle, whereby the first material flows from the first channel into both the inner channel and the outer channel. The first material that flows into the inner channel will flow out of the nozzle assembly to form a first layer of the injection molded article and the material that flows into the outer channel will flow out of the nozzle assembly to form a second layer of the injection molded article.
