    • A coating apparatus includes: a block-shaped die main body; upper and lower nozzle parts projecting from the die main body to form a nozzle, forward end portions of the upper and lower nozzle parts being substantially cylindrical and each of the portions having a constant curvature, the forward end portion of the upper nozzle part serving as a guide, a discharge opening having a slit-shaped sectional configuration being provided in the guide, a bottom surface of which is lower than a surface of the guide; a coating material reservoir, provided in the die main body, communicating with the discharge opening; a groove formed between the upper and lower nozzle parts, through which the discharge opening communicates with the reservoir; a partitioning plate mounted widthwise substantially entirely on one of the forward end portions of the upper and lower nozzle parts so that the partitioning plate is movable through the nozzle to open the groove; a rotary block pivotably supporting the die main body for rotation through a specified angle; and a solvent reservoir, provided below the lower nozzle, for receiving the forward end portions of the nozzle which has moved downward by pivotal motion of the die main body with the rotary block.

    • A coating head assembly for applying a coating material to a web, comprises an applicator block; a paint reservoir defined in the applicator block for the storage of the coating material; and a generally elongated nozzle integral with the applicator block and extending in a direction substantially transverse to the direction of transportation of the web. A free edge of the nozzle opposite to the applicator block has a generally curved nozzle face. This nozzle face has a plurality of applicator grooves defined therein in communication with the paint reservoir. During the passage of the web in sliding contact with the nozzle face, the coating material is supplied outwardly from the applicator grooves for the transfer thereof onto the web, resulting in the formation of a striped pattern of the coated layer on the web.

    • An apparatus for applying coating material in the form of stripes onto a film traveling in a predetermined direction is provided with a coating material nozzle which effuses coating material while supporting the film. The contact support surface of the nozzle in contact with the film is a flat surface, along which the film travels. The coating material nozzle has thereon applicator grooves for uniformly forming the cross-sectional shape of coating material applied in the form of stripes onto the film. Effusion ports or discharge ports for coating material are provided in the bottom surface of the applicator grooves. Coating material is fed to the coating material nozzle through a gear pump, which is adapted to control the coating material supply so that the coating material within the applicator grooves has a pressure lower than atmospheric pressure. In addition, there may be provided a plate member for blowing air uniformly and opposed to the contact support surface of the coating material nozzle contacted by the film. The air from this plate is blown against the traveling film on its rear side.

    • A flat display device includes cathodes, a screen plate having a fluorescent screen, a plate-like electrode for controlling electron beams from the cathodes to the fluorescent screen, and a frame body for supporting the plate-like electrode. The flat display device is made by the steps of pressing a pair of leaf springs provided respectively at two confronting sides of a frame body to thereby bend the frame body in such directions that the confronting sides become close to each other, securely fixing both ends of a plate-like electrode to the pair of bent leaf springs, and releasing the pressing of the leaf springs to thereby restore the leaf springs.
