    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin-film magnetic head that reduces coil resistance value while maintaining the number of coil turns for decreasing a calorific value or shortens yoke length for improving high-frequency characteristics, and also to provide a magnetic recording device thereof. SOLUTION: In a write element 2, first and second coils 231, 232 are provided on a first insulating film 251 formed on one surface of a first magnetic film 211 and spirally wound around a back gap section. In the first and second coils 231, 232, one of them is fitted to the space between the coil turns of the other via a second insulating film 252 and is connected so that flux in the same direction is generated. One of the first and second coils 231, 232 is adjacent to a pole section P1 and the back gap section via the second insulating film 252. The adjacent side has a tapered angle that is narrower downward and becomes wider upward in terms of the sectional shape.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin film magnetic head utilizing a perpendicular recording scheme having excellent overwrite characteristics.
      SOLUTION: The thin film magnetic head has a configuration in which a main magnetic pole film 211 having a magnetic pole end portion 210 on a medium opposing surface (ABS) side facing a magnetic disk, a write shield film 222 facing the magnetic pole end portion 210 so as to form a recording gap film 241 on the medium opposing surface side, and a thin film coil 231 wound around at least a part of the write shield film 222 are laminated. Furthermore, the thin film magnetic head has an upper yoke magnetic pole film 212 whose size is larger than that of the main magnetic pole film 211 at a part more distant from the ABS than the recording gap film 241, and this upper yoke magnetic pole film 212 is bonded to the side of the main magnetic pole film 211 close to the thin film coil 231. In the upper yoke magnetic pole film 212, an end portion on the ABS side is retracted in a direction apart from the ABS in accordance with an increase in film thickness which is measured from the surface of the main magnetic pole film 211.
