    • PORT CLOSURE SYSTEM FOR INTRAVENOUS FLUID CONTAINER Abstract A port closure system for use with a piercing pin (20) and a fluid container (12) s having a fluid port (16), comprises: an administrative housing (90) adapted to seal the fluid port (16) in closed condition, the administrative housing (90) having a base surface (92) adapted to be associated with the fluid port (16) and an interior surface (94) adapted to face outwardly from the fluid port (16), a sleeve (96) extending from the interior surface (94) past the base surface (92); a diaphragm (110) connected to the sleeve (96) to to seal the sleeve (96) against fluid flow, and a cap assembly (38) connected to the administrative housing, the cap assembly (38) including an under shell (40) shaped to mate with the interior surface (94) of the administrative housing (90) to seal the interior surface (94), and a removable cap (44) which provides access to a sealed opening (42) located over the sleeve (96). The sleeve (96) has an upper portion (98) and a lower 15 portion (100), the upper portion (98) being adjacent the interior surface (94) and having an opening (104) with a lesser diameter than the lower portion (100), and the diameter variation between the upper and lower portions (98, 100) permitting the sleeve (96) to receive and sealably associate with the piercing pin (20) during use regardless of the diameter of the piercing pin (20).
