    • PURPOSE: To obtain a rolling roll material with enhanced toughness and thermal impact resistance by adding a restricted amount of Si and Nb in place of Co in the composition of a high-speed tool steel.
      CONSTITUTION: This rolling roll material consists of, by wt., 1.2W1.6% C, 0.5W 2.5% Si, ≤0.6% Mn, 3.0W5.0% Cr, 3.0W5.0% Mo, 3.0W5.0% V, 1.0W2.5% W, 1.0W 2.5% Nb and the balance Fe with impurities. This composition is obtd. by reducing the Cr, Mo and W contents of steel and adding such a restricted amount of Si and Nb in place of conventionally added Co. By this steel composition the rolling roll material has high wear resistance, high toughness and superior thermal impact resistance.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain a work roll for rolling having wear resistance and high brightness by forming an outer layer member of high C and high Cr cast iron to the outside of a core made of steel by an electroslag remelting method and thereafter subjecting it to heat treatment. CONSTITUTION:A cylindrical consumption electrode 14 of cast iron constituted of, by weight, 2.5-3.5% C, 1-3% Si, 1-3% Mn, 12-25% Cr, 1-3% Mo, 1-3% W, 1-3% V and the balance consisting substantially of iron is disposed between a core 13 made of steel and a water-cooled mold 18. Flux is added to the tip of the electrode 14; an arc is generated between the electrode 14 and a starting stand 16 by electric power from the electric power source 21 to generate molten slag 19; and the outer circumferential part of the core 13 and said electrode 14 are melted to form a molten metal 20. Accompanied with the rise of the molten metal 20, said mold 18 is risen and the above metal 20 is successively solidified while revolving a solid surface plate 15 to form an outer layer member 11, and after preparing a composite roll material, specific heat treatment is executed thereto. By this method, the above roll having no faults on the welding boundary part 12 and having wear resistance and high brightness can be obtd.
