The small shield portion (16B, 17B) comprises wide portions situated substantially in the direction of an axis joining centers of the main contact and resistor contact and narrow portions situated substantially in the direction perpendicular to the axis. The width of the narrow portions is smaller than the width of the wide portions, and at least a part of the capacitor device (2) is arranged over the narrow portions. In the circuit breaker, since the capacitor device (2) is arranged over the narrow portions, the space for arranging the capacitor device (2) is larger than the conventional circuit breaker, the arrangement of the isoelectric lines is not disturbed or disordered locally in the vicinity of the top of the shield of the stationary main contact (5) and in the vicinity of the movable main contact (7) and high dielectric strength between the main contacts is obtained.

    • PURPOSE:To detect a partial discharge due to a defective internal insulation with a good accuracy by providing a detecting means including a detecting agent, which reacts on the decomposition gas SO2 of SF6 gas generated by a partial discharge accompanying the defective insulation to change color, in the vicinity of a supply and exhaust stop valve provided to a closed vessel. CONSTITUTION:A detecting means 2 mounted on the atmospheric side of SF6 supply and exhaust stop valve 1 detects the generation of a partial discharge due to a defective insulation in a closed vessel 11. For example, when the supply and exhaust stop valve 1 and an exhaust valve 6 are closed usually and the supply and exhaust stop valve 1 is opened at the time of detection, SF6 gas filling up the closed vessel 11 flows into a gas holding chamber 3 via the supply and exhaust stop valve 1. After that, when the supply and exhaust stop valve 1 is closed and the exhaust valve 6 is opened, a predetermined quantity of gas in the gas holding chamber 3 is discharged into the air from a through hole 13b while touching a detecting agent 7 in a detecting tube 5 from a through hole 13a. At that time, the detecting agent 7 reacts on decomposition products and changes color when SO2 exists.

    • PURPOSE:To make it possible to manufacture in a small size and economically even though the breaker is for a high voltage and a large capacity by providing shield members which consist of a cylindrical shield and a small shield at the fixing side and at the movable side of a breaking member, and providing a capacitor device at the position at the outer surface of the small shield and inside the cylindrical shield. CONSTITUTION:At the movable side and the fixing side of a breaking member 1 and a resistance device 19, shield members 16 and 17 formed in specific shapes are provided respectively. By utilizing an arc-form space surrounded by the imaginary circles of small shields 16B and 17B, and cylindrical shields 16A and 17A, which are parts of the shield members 16 and 17, a capacitor 2 to suppress a transient voltage and to control a share voltage of the breaking member 1 is positioned, and fixed and held by fixing metals 14 and 15 at the movable side and the fixing side. As a result, equipotential lines are distributed along the curvature r of the small shields 16B and 17B in equal intervals, and relax the electric field intensity at the pole extensively, making the breaking member for a high voltage and a large capacity in a compact size. Consequently, an earthing tank type gas-blast circuit breaker for a high voltage and a large capacity can be manufactured in a compact size and ecconomically.
