摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the time required for insertion, position adjustment, and fixation by inserting the thin plate type optical filter into a groove on the top surface of the optical waveguide, and then placing a buckling load on the upper end of the optical filter and adjusting the position in the groove. SOLUTION: The optical waveguide 1 has the groove 4 cut by dicing. The thin plate type optical filter 3 is inserted into the groove 4. Then an arm 5 is moved along a (y) axis and pressed against the upper end of the optical filter 3 to place the buckling load. Then the arm 5 is moved along an (x) axis. The optical filter 3 deforms along the width of the groove 4 to shift in position. At this time, light is made incident on a Y branch and its reflected light is monitored. The arm 5 is moved until the loss of the reflected light becomes small. This moving direction can be reversed. Thus, the optical filter 3 can be moved optionally to an optimum position between the solid-line position and broken-line position.

Then a deep groove for exposing the benches 25, 42a, and 46 is formed on the clad layer 13, and electrodes 39 to 41 for supplying a current to the light emitting element 22 and leading a current out of the photodetecting element 19 are formed on the bench 25 to obtain the single-mode optical waveguide.
