    • A thermally expandable material comprising: a) from 3 to 40 % by weight of a first thermoplastic elastomer having a first glass transition temperature, b) from 3 to 40 % by weight of a second thermoplastic elastomer having a second glass transition temperature, wherein the first and the second glass transition temperature differ by at least 10 °C c) from 5 to 50 % by weight of at least one thermoplastic polymer selected from the group consisting of polymers and copolymers with at least one polymerizable C = C double bond, d) from 0 to 30% by weight of at least one tackifying resin, e) at least one latent chemical blowing agent in an amount effective to cause the expandable material to expand at least 50 % in volume when heated at a temperature of 150 °C for at least 20 minutes, wherein the sum of components a) to e) is less than 100 % by weight, and the remainder to 100 % by weight is made up of further components or adjuvants. Preferably, the material comprises: a first thermoplastic elastomer which has a glass transition temperature in the range from -25 to 0.0 °C, a second thermoplastic elastomer which has a glass transition temperature in the range from 0.1 to 30 °C, at least one thermoplastic polymer c) selected from the group consisting of ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymers and ethylene/methyl acrylate copolymers, at least one latent chemical blowing agent, at least one curing agent based on sulfur and/or sulfur compounds. The material can be used for various sound-dampening applications like dissipative vibratory wave barriers, sound dampening of automotive closure panel assemblies, cavity filler inserts, and constrained layer damping structures.

    • A member having a cavity comprising an insert for sealing and acoustic damping, comprising at least two carrier plates intersecting along a line parallel to the cavity axis, and this insert as such. Each carrier plate has two plate surfaces, a longitudinal edge running essentially parallel to the longitudinal cavity axis, and a front and a rear edge running essentially perpendicular to the longitudinal cavity axis, placed in the longitudinal cavity in a way that the perpendicular plate axes of the carrier plates are perpendicular to the longitudinal cavity axis.     • An uncured acoustic absorbing member comprising a thermally inert carrier lattice comprising walls and cells between the walls defining an open lattice area, the walls being at least partly covered with a layer of an uncured thermally expandable material which cures and expands by foaming when heated to a temperature in the range of 140 to 200 0C to form nodules of a cured closed cell foam, characterized in that: a) the expansion ratio E of the thermally expandable material on heating, and b) the ratio of the open lattice area and the thickness of the layer of the uncured thermally expandable material are selected in such a way that, after foaming, the nodules come partly into contact with one another forming an arrangement of open pores between the nodules, wherein the area ratio, measured in a planar cross section perpendicular or parallel to the walls of the carrier lattice, of the open pores to the total area covered by the open pores and the nodules of the cured closed cell foam is in the range of 2 to 50 %. The member after curing and a vehicle containing the cured member are also comprised by the invention. Preferably, the cured closed cell foam has a sound absorption α at the first absorption peak in the direction of increasing frequency of at least 30 %.
