    • Embodiments of the invention enable the transmission and receipt of information packets to and from at least one automotive data bus that enables connectivity between automotive devices on at least one automotive data bus and external devices not originally coupled with an automotive data bus or between an automotive device residing on one automotive data bus and another automotive device residing on a different automotive bus. Devices that may be coupled with an automotive data bus that were not originally coupled with the bus include but are not limited to cell phones, garage door openers, radar detectors, digital music players, alarms, stereos, GPS receivers, PCs, PDAs, digital cameras, video cameras or any other electronic device. These external devices may be controlled by the switches on a steering wheel or radio buttons for example when coupled with embodiments of the invention. Existing devices on an automotive data bus may comprise device(s) such as for example a CD-player, MID (Multi-Information Display Buttons), menu screen, multi-function steering wheel buttons, parking distance control, radio, digital music system, digital sound processor, instrument control electronics, light control module, telephone, navigation system, integrated LCD screen, On-Board computer, On-Board computer text bar, lights, wipers, seats, seat memory and any other device originally installed in an automobile. These devices may be controlled by external devices coupled with an embodiment of the invention that is in turn coupled to the automotive data bus. For example an incoming cell phone number may be displayed on an automobile stereo display when an incoming call rings a cell phone coupled with an embodiment of the invention to the automotive data bus. Embodiments of the invention allow for the interception and delay of messages intended for a given device when an external device requests use of an automotive device. For example when the incoming number is displayed on the stereo system text display, such as a change in volume any message intended for the stereo system text display may be intercepted and delayed until the cell phone call is answered.

    • A filter is provided having a housing that includes a cavity. A center tube includes first and second ends spaced from one another. A seat extends radially from the center tube and is arranged between the first and second ends. A media pack is arranged within the cavity and supported on the seat such that the center tube extends through a central opening of the media pack. An anti-drainback valve is supported on the seat and is in sealing engagement with the center tube and the media pack. The housing includes a tapping plate that provides an inlet and outlet. An annular lip of the anti-drainback valve is in sealing engagement with the tapping plate when in a closed position in which the engine is shut off.

    • A separate filter cartridge and latch release are used to replace a used filter cartridge in a filter assembly having a latch. In one example, the filter cartridge includes opposing end caps that are substantially the same as one another. The end caps have central holes. The filter cartridge is inserted into a filter assembly housing in which the latch prevents a cover from being installed onto a filter assembly housing until the latch is deactivated. The latch release is arranged relative to the filter cartridge to cooperate with the latch to enable the cover to be reattached to the filter assembly housing. The latch release includes tabs that align with features of the latch and extend through the central holes to cooperate with the latch. The latch release is removably secured to the cover and the filter cartridge.

    • A vehicle seat has a seat cushion frame supported on a seat frame by height adjustment mechanisms located at the front and rear of the seat. The rear height adjustment mechanism comprises a hinge plate pivoted at opposite ends to the seat frame and to the rear edge of the seat cushion frame, a rack pivoted to the seat frame and formed with vertically spaced slots, and a locking pin carried by the hinge plate and engageable in any selected one of the slots. The rack is movable by a handle out of engagement with the locking pin to release the seat cushion frame for upward movement under the force of a biasing spring or for down movement under the load of the seat occupant. Release of the handle engages the locking pin with the slot of the rack lying nearest opposite it to lock the adjustment mechanism.
