    • A safety device for a chain saw conventional in its overall construction is disclosed which comprises mainly a brake lever pivotally supported by the housing of the chain saw and arranged to stop the cutting chain when the brake lever is actuated either by inertia or by engagement with the operator's hand. The brake lever is formed with a cam surface adapted to press an engaging member connected to the drive shaft out of meshing engagement with an interlocking wheel for driving the cutting chain so as to shut off the driving power to be transmitted to the interlocking wheel. The brake lever also includes a braking member secured thereto and adapted for movement therewith in synchronism with the arcuate movement of the cam surface, into frictional braking engagement with the interlocking wheel for effecting a brake effect on the cutting chain.

    • Disclosed herein is a lawn mower including a motor housing for vertically enclosing a motor; and a cutter casing disposed below the motor housing for housing a cutter fitted to the lower extremity of the shaft of the motor. The cutter casing is connected to the motor housing in such a manner that they communicate with each other. The cutter casing has at the upper portion thereof air-passing ports vertically extending therethrough. There is provided on the cutter casing a shroud for enclosing the motor housing, and the shroud has at a portion thereof apertures opening to communicate with the atmosphere; and air inlets opening to communicate through an air filter with the interior of the motor housing. In the cutter casing and above the cutter, there are provided an air impeller for creating a flow of air to support the mower on a cushion of air; and an axial impeller for cooling the motor. Both impellers are fitted to the motor shaft such that the axial impeller overlies the air impeller. The air impeller is adapted to draw air through the apertures and the air-passing ports to generate an air cushion in conjunction with said cutter casing. The axial impeller is adapted to create an air flow streaming down in the motor housing through the air inlets so as to cool the motor.

    • A power cutting tool having a body, a base for supporting the body, and a housing provided at the front end of the body, comprises a substantially saucer-shaped rotary cutter rotatably supported within and by the housing and having a cutting face substantially on the same level as the bottom of the base; a guide roller disposed in front of the housing and adapted to roll on a workpiece surface, which guide roller being vertically movable with respect to said body so as to control the depth of cut of the rotary cutter; a movable cover fitted to the lowermost end of the housing and adapted to annularly enclose the rotary cutter and to cover the workpiece surface so as to define a cutting chamber which in turn is defined into an inside chamber and an outside chamber by the rotary cutter; and a plurality of communicating ports provided on the rotary cutter and adapted to communicate the inside chamber and the outside chamber therethrough.
