      SOLUTION: In a coagulation reaction process in treatment of solids-containing discharge water discharged from the production processes of the water-based dispersions comprising surfactant, colorants, and silica in the manufacturing plant of water-based paint, electrophotographic toner and the like, the pH of the discharge water is adjusted within a rage of 4 to 6, and the surface potential of the silica is adjusted within a rage of +20 to -20 mV, which enables efficient treatment and the reduction of the amounts of used coagulant and generated sludge.

As a result, the waste water can be treated efficiently and the amount of the flocculant to be used and the amount of sludge to be generated can be reduced.
