    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium wherein generation of wear of a head slider or the magnetic recording medium can be avoided, without generating high friction force, even if the head slider and the magnetic recording medium come into contact with each other.
      SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium includes at least a magnetic layer, a protective layer and a lubricant layer on a non-magnetic substrate and further, includes a moisture adsorbing layer, having ≥0.3 nm thickness on the lubricant layer. A method for manufacturing the magnetic recording medium includes: a step (1) for preparing the non-magnetic substrate and forming at least the magnetic layer, the protective layer and the lubricant layer on the non-magnetic substrate to form a magnetic recording substrate; and a step (2) for leaving the magnetic recording substrate, in a high-temperature high-humidity environment and then leaving the magnetic recording substrate in a normal temperature normal-humidity environment, to form the moisture adsorbing layer having ≥0.3 nm film thickness on the lubricant layer.

      SOLUTION: In the magnetic disk medium provided with a magnetic layer, a protective layer and a lubricant layer on a substrate and used for the contact magnetic recording system, the lubricant layer is formed by layering two or more layers and bonding force to the protective layer of a second lubricant layer is higher than that of a first protective layer when the first protective layer and the second protective layer are defined sequentially from the protective layer side. Both lubricant layers are made of a perfluoropolyether having hydroxyl groups in their terminal groups and the number of hydroxyl groups of a second lubricant is preferably more than that of a first lubricant. Especially preferably, the first lubricant is made of Z-dol and the second lubricant is made of Z-tetraol. The protective layer is preferably made of diamond like carbon.
