摘要： PURPOSE:To form a reinforcing covering layer having a smooth surface free from burr on connected parts by coating and curing an uncured resin by the relative movement of the parts freed of their coverings and plural dies type coaters. CONSTITUTION:Parts 3A, 3B of covered optical fibers are freed of their coverings and connected, and plural dies type coaters 10A, 10B which can be freely moved along the parts 3A, 3B are arranged around the optical fibers in the axial direction of the parts 3A, 3B. After charging an uncured resin 6 into the coaters 10A, 10B, the parts 3A, 3B freed of their coverings and connected and the coaters 10A, 10B are relatively moved in the axial direction of the parts 3A, 3B to coat the uncured resin 6 on the outsides of the parts 3A, 3B. The uncured resin 6 is cured to form a reinforcing covering layer.

摘要： PURPOSE:To form a reinforcing covering layer by irradiating curing energy to cure an uncured resin in a groove. CONSTITUTION:A part 3A freed of its covering is held, an uncured resin 6C is charged into a groove 41 for molding in a molding tool 4, and curing energy is irradiated on the resin 6C in the groove 41 from an ultraviolet lamp 7 placed above the tool 4. The uncured resin 6C is converted into a cured resin 6C'. This resin 6C' is taken out, an uncured resin 6D similar to the resin 6C is charged into the groove 41, and the resin 6C' is inverted and set on the resin 6C. Curing energy is then irradiated on the resin 6D in the groove 41 from the lamp 7 through the resin 6C' to convert the uncured resin 6D into a cured resin 6D'.

摘要： PURPOSE:To obviate surface grazing and to eliminate the cause for breakage by the procedure consisting of removing and cutting the primary covering of fibers and removing chemically the primary covering. CONSTITUTION:The primary covering 2 of the optical fiber 1 is mechanically or chemically removed and is set to a cutter 3. A score 5 is given by a knife 4 to the surface of the covering 2 and the fiber is bent and cut. The fiber 1 is grazed 6 on the surface by contact with the cutter 3, but the cut end 7 is specular and perpendicular. The fiber end is in succession dipped into a hot sulfuric acid and the primary covering 2 is removed by the required length. Two pieces of such optical fibers 1 are aligned and the butt parts 9 are welded and connected by an arc discharge 10. The fibers 1 are satisfactorily welded and connected without surface graze 6 at all according to the above-mentioned constitution.

摘要： PURPOSE:To make a connection easily and accurately even within a narrow space by connecting ferrules which are formed by welding cores, sheathing them with a cylindrical member and caking them with resin, and then cutting the caked body through a connector. CONSTITUTION:The cylindrical member 30 is fitted onto one optical fiber cable 20 and fiber cable cores 21 are set abutting on each other and welded together; and the connection part is covered with the member 30 and setting resin 50 is charged inside to cake the cores 21. Then, the weld connection part is cut into a couple of ferrules 30a and 30b. Those ferrules are placed on the lower plate 42 of the connector 40 and the upper plate 41 is placed thereupon; and an adhesive 52 is charged to connect the cores 21. Consequently, the ferrules 30a and 30b are formed previously, so the connecting operation is extremely easy and the cores 21 are connected together easily and accurately even at a narrow place such as a manhole.

摘要： PURPOSE:To prevent generation of a very small flaw or crack and local generation of thermal strain by dissolving away coating parts by a soln. from optical fibers, holding mechanically such fibers, butting the connecting end faces to each other and heating the end faces with specified power under electric discharge thereby welding the end faces. CONSTITUTION:The cut optical fiber is immersed for the specified length from the end thereof into sulfuric acid 12 in a vessel 13 heated by a heater 14 to remove the coating part 1 of the optical fiber without mechanical external force. The fiber is immersed into the solvent, which is acetone 15, in a vessel 16. The fiber end is thus cleaned under light stirring. The coating part 1 of the optical fiber is put into the V-groove 5a for fixing the optical fiber of a supporting base 5 and is grasped and fixed from above by a retaining jig 6. The contact from the outside is thus eliminated in the stage of connecting the bare optical fibers 2 by welding and therefore the generation of a flaw is prevented. Both bases 5 are brought into proximity to each other to butt the connecting end faces of the fie bers 2 and thereafter the connecting ends are heated under the gas discharge by discharge electrodes 8 by which the connecting ends are welded and connected.
