    • PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid crystal display element having uniform film thickness and showing good liquid crystal orientation performance to the liquid crystal molecules without rubbing treatment by consisting the liquid crystal oriented film of the imide compd. of specified polyamic acid. CONSTITUTION:At least a pair of electrode substrates having a liquid crystal oriented film on the surface are disposed while facing to each other, and a liquid crystal is held between these electrode substrates to form the liquid crystal display element. The liquid crystal oriented film consists of the imide compd. of polyamic acid (A) and/or modified polyamic acid (B). The polyamic acid (A) is a polyamic acid expressed by formula I composed a diamine compd. and tetracarboxylic acid. The polyamic acid B is a modified polyamic acid from A and an amine compd. having the hydrocarbon groups of 1-40C. In formula, Z is a poly-nuclear aromatic tetracarboxylic acid residue. The liquid crystal oriented film is the imide compd. of an extended film on water surface or a Langmuir-Blodgett acid.

    • PURPOSE:To enable a thermal recording material which is high in colouring sensitivity and excellent in brightness to be obtained by a method wherein a compound having a specified composition is contained. CONSTITUTION:A compound as given by the formula I is contained in a material for thermal recording which develops colour by thermally melting an electron donative achromatic colour former and an electron acceptive developing material on a base material. In the formula I, R is hydrogen atom or methyl group, A is 1-7C alkylene group, Z is isocyanate compound residual group, and n is 1-7 integer. As a compound which forms the isocyanate compound residual group Z (a group of removing all isocyanate groups from the isocyanate compound), fatty acid monoisocyanate compound of octadecyl isocyanate or the like, and aromatic monoisocyanate compound of m-isopropenyl-alpha,alpha'- dimethylbenzil isocyanate, etc., are exemplified. A material for thermal recording which is extremely high in colouring sensitivity and excellent in brightness (texture fog) is obtained thereby.
