    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical film whose retardation and wavelength dispersion characteristics are adjusted to ranges suitable for the optical compensation of a VA (Vertical Aligned) mode liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION: The optical film is obtained by stretching a film having a low residual solvent amount in a traveling direction and heat-treating at a temperature equal to or higher than a glass transition temperature (Tg) and equal to or lower than a melting point (Tm); and the film is formed of a cellulose acylate film satisfying the following expressions (1) to (6) and contains at least one kind of cellulose acylate and at least one kind of retardation increasing agents showing an absorption maximum wavelength λmax of from 280 nm to 380 nm.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical film which is excellent in the expression of the retardation in directions of the front surface and the film thickness and is reduced in the variation of retardation values due to the circumstance such as humidity, and also to provide a liquid crystal display element and a polarizing plate used for the device which are reduced in the change of view angle characteristics even when the humidity of the circumstance changes. SOLUTION: The cellulose acylate film is characterized in that: the in plane orientation coefficient fxy and the orientation coefficient fxz along the film thickness direction calculated on the basis of a C=O stretching mode of the ester group in infrared spectroscopy are within the range expressed by the formula, ¾fxy¾ (λ) at the front satisfies 30 nm≤Re (590) ≤200 nm; and the retardation Rth (λ) in the film thickness direction satisfies 70 nm≤Rth (590) ≤350 nm. Here, Re (λ) is a retardation value (Re) (unit: nm) on the front surface at the wavelength of λ nm, and Rth (λ) is a retardation value (Rth) (unit: nm) at the wavelength of λ nm along the direction of the film thickness.
