The panel is weakened along a plurality of circumferentially extending regions. 摘要： An easy-open can end having a tear portion circumscribed by a line of weakness and a pull tab connected to the tear portion in which a rib projects from the surface of the tear portion. The rib includes an upstanding sidewall which is positioned in contiguous relation to the line of weakness. The shape of the sidewall and its position with respect to the line of weakness provide shielding of the line of weakness. As a result, when the tear portion is removed from the can end by severing along the line of weakness, the edge of the tear portion is shielded from user-contact by the sidewall. A process which involves the steps of forming a closed rib in a can end in which the rib provides an upstanding sidewall. A line of weakness is formed in the can end in contiguous relation to the sidewall and the sidewall is provided with a shape which shields the line of weakness. As a result, the edge of the tear portion is shielded from user-contact by the sidewall when the tear portion is removed from the can end by severing along the line of weakness.

摘要： An improved easy-opening end structure for use with a container includes a retained tab and a captured panel which is also retained. The end structure includes a scoreline of an improved pinched score variety, defining a pour opening formed by fracture of the scoreline to release the panel formed by the scoreline. Preferably, the panel is retained on the end. The tab is affixed to the end, other than to the panel and includes an opening end positioned over the panel, but not secured thereto, and a lifting end spaced from the panel which is preferably downwardly dished and generally circular in shape. As the lifting end is raised, the portion of the scoreline between the opening end of the tab and the attachment is popped by an upward lift of the end through essentially a class 2 lever action and thereafter the opening end bears against the panel as the tab is raised further to complete rupture of the scoreline by essentially a class 1 lever action and to push the panel downwardly and laterally through the formed opening. The panel may be hinged or fall free into the container. Various types of tabs as well as a method of forming a scoreline and various end structures are described.
