SOLUTION: This injection blow molded tumbler 10 is molded from polymeric materials and has a reinforcing rim 16 with a wall thickness exceeding those of adjacent side walls 14. In that case, the tumbler may be molded from a number of resin raw materials so that it particularly shows the improved rigidity and compression resistance as well as the aesthetical quality desired by consumers.

SOLUTION: This tumbler 10 has a bottom section 12, a side wall section 14, and an upper circular rim section 16 which is extended around the external surface 18 of the opening 20 of the tumbler 10. The bottom section 12 of the tumbler 10 is integrally formed with a tumbler remaining section, and wraps a bottom part 22 having a meniscus section 24 and a side wall 26 of the bottom. The side wall 26 of the bottom is typically thicker than the side wall 14, and has a taper which is substantially 0.

摘要： An improved paperboard has been bulk enhanced by retaining a substantial portion of bulk-enhanced additives including expandable microspheres in a suitable distribution within the paperboard. The cellulosi c paperboard web has an overall fiber weight (w) of at least 40 lbs. per 3000 square feet and, at a fiber density of 3, 4.5, 6.5, 7, 8.3 and 9 pounds per 3000 square foot ream at a fiberboard thickness of 0.001 inches, has a GM Taber stiffness of at least about 0.00246w2.63 grams-centimeter/fiber mat density1.63, and a GM tensile stiffness of at least about 615 + 13.18w pounds per inch. The high retention of the bulk enhancing additives is believed to result fr om the incorporation of suitable retention aids. The resulting paperboard has better GM Taber stiffness values and GM tensile stiffness than prior art paperboards. The paperboard also has increased strain to failure and is able to be formed into suitable paperboard containers without loss of integrity. The resulting containers have increased hold times when they contain hot or cold food or drink.

摘要： A container formed from a unitary paperboard blank having a substantially planar inner region, a sidewall region and a rim region formed about the periphery thereof is disclosed. The sidewall region includes a generally annular region flaring upwardly and outwardly from a periphery of the planar inner region and a first frusto-conical region adjoining the annular region with the frusto-conical region sloping outwardly and upwardly from the annular region. The rim region includes an outwardly flaring arcuate annular region adjoining an outer periphery of the first frusto-conical region, and a second frusto-conical region extending substantially tangentially from the arcuate annular region. The second frusto-conical region extends outwardly and downwardly at an angle of about 6 DEG to about 12 DEG and preferably about 6 DEG -10.5 DEG relative to the plane defined by the planar inner region. The rim of the container may further include an outwardly and downwardly flaring frusto-conical lip adjoining an outer periphery of the second frusto-conical region in order to aid in grasping of the paperboard container by the consumer. Additionally, a plurality of radially extending mutually spaced pleats are also formed in the rim region and are internally bonded with portions of the rim region during formation of the paperboard container by a die press. During the fabrication of the paperboard material for forming the aforementioned container, the paperboard material is impregnated with a sizing adhesive equivalent to at least 6 pounds of starch per 3,000 ft ream of paperboard material such that the tensile strength of the board is increased, and such that during the press forming of the paperboard containers between respective dies, the pleats adhere to respective portions of the pleats and rim, thereby maintaining the integrity of the pleats during use of the container by the consumer by resisting the opening of the pleats.

摘要： A method of making a disposable tumbler includes: injection molding a polyethylene terephthalate resin in an annular mold cavity defined by an injection mold wall and a core to form a resinous parison on the core; separating the parison from the injection mold wall by moving the parison on the core away from the mold wall; moving the parison on the core into alignment with a blow-mold; and expanding the parison by directing a pressurized fluid to its interior such that the parison separates from the core and expands to the surface of the blow mold to form the tumbler, wherein the parison is radially expanded by a factor of at least about 2.6 at its base to form the tumbler. Typically, the parison is radially expanded at its base by a factor of from about 2.6 to about 3.25 to form the tumbler; whereas preferably the parison is expanded by a factor of from about 2.7 to about 2.9. In preferred embodiments of the method, the mold core is provided with a microtextured surface which may be provided by way of vapor-honing to provide a tumbler which resists nest-lock. Moisture, judiciously applied, may likewise alleviate nest-lock. The annular mold cavity is generally thicker than similar cavities which may be employed with polystyrene, for example.

The tumbler may be formed of a variety of resinous materials and exhibits improved toughness and crush resistance as well as aesthetic qualities particularly desired by consumers. In a particularly preferred embodiment, thick- walled polycarbonate tumblers are prepared from hydrolysis-stabilized polycarbonate compositions while minimizing molded-in stress. In still further embodiments , nanocomposites compositions are used to form the containers of the invention .
