    • A safety needle is provided. The safety needle includes a substantially hollow body and a needle assembly that includes a needle supported on a needle hub. The needle hub is movable in relation to the hollow body from an advanced position wherein a sharp tip of the needle extends from the hollow body to a retracted position wherein the sharp tip of the needle is positioned within the hollow body. The safety needle also includes a spring biased retraction mechanism that includes a constant force spring operatively connected to the needle hub. The constant force spring is a generally flat strip of prestressed material that is formed into constant coils around itself. The constant force spring is configured to bias the needle hub towards the retracted position wherein the spring provides a substantially constant force to the needle assembly while the needle assembly moves from the advanced position to the retracted position.

    • A relatively flexible, dual-lumen enteral feeding tube for delivery of fluid through a patient's esophagus to the patient's digestive system, the enteral feeding tube having proximal and distal ends. The tube comprises an enteral feeding lumen having a feeding lumen inlet opening adjacent the proximal end of the tube and a feeding lumen outlet opening adjacent the distal end of the tube. Additionally, a relatively small stylet lumen is provided separate from said enteral feeding lumen, the stylet lumen having a stylet lumen inlet opening adjacent the proximal end of the tube and being longitudinally co-extensive with a substantial length of the enteral feeding lumen. A relatively stiff stylet having a tapered annealed distal portion is removably positioned in the stylet lumen and extends from the stylet inlet lumen opening to adjacent to the feeding lumen outlet opening. A Y-site adaptor is fixed on the proximal end of the tube and the stylet is shorter in length than the distance from either of the Y-site openings to the tube outlet opening. To facilitate insertion or removal of the stylet, which is constructed of metal, into or from the stylet lumen, a portion of the stylet is provided with a first coating of polytetrafluorethylene having a second coating of silicone over the first coating.

    • A modular drainage apparatus has a plurality of preformed plastic bodies supported by a header. One of the bodies includes a collection chamber connected to the pleural cavity of a patient and connected to a first passage formed in the header. A second body includes a U-shaped liquid seal chamber having one end connected to the first passage and its other end connected to a second passage formed in the header. The second passage is connected to a vacuum pump, which creates a suction within the collection chamber through the liquid seal chamber. A third body includes a U-shaped chamber to regulate the negative pressure produced by the vacuum pump to a desired negative pressure. The second body also includes a second U-shaped chamber having one end connected to the atmosphere and its other end connected to the liquid seal chamber adjacent its connection to the first passage. By filling each leg of the second U-shaped chamber of the second body to a selected level with a liquid, the negative pressure in the collection chamber is maintained at a selected maximum above the pressure maintained in the collection chamber by the vacuum pump and regulated by the U-shaped chamber of the third body.
