    • Optical apparatus for controlling operations based on a user's visual axis includes a finder for observing an object, and circuitry for judging whether or not a user is looking into the finder. First control circuitry is provided for discontinuing a predetermined operation of the apparatus when the judging circuitry judges that the user is not looking into the finder. Second control circuitry is provided for beginning the predetermined operation regardless of the result judged by the judging circuitry. Selection circuitry is provided for selecting one of an operation of the first control circuitry and an operation of the second control circuitry according to an operational state of the apparatus. Preferably, the device is incorporated into a camera in which a self-timer or a remote-control photographing mode may be carried out even if the user's visual axis is not detected in the view finder.

    • A connector assembly comprises a first connector housing with a flexible locking arm, and a second connector housing having an engaging section which is provided for the flexible locking arm. In the first connector housing, a shorting contactor including an elastic contact plate is set in a displacement permitting space provided for the flexible locking arm in such a manner that the elastic contact plate is displaced in association with the displacement of the flexible locking arm. In the second connector housing, a pair of engagement detecting metal terminals are provided in confrontation with the shorting contactor. When the first and second connector housings are incompletely engaged with each other, the shorting contactor is not contact with the engagement detecting metal terminals by the displacement of elastic contact plate which is due to the displacement of the flexible locking arm.

    • A "safe" position for a tool changing operation in a numerically controlled machine tool is determined based on specific tool size and machining location. In one embodiment, tool change positions are taught in a teaching operation, and are stored for future reference. During machining, as each tool changing position is encountered, a pointer has advanced to the next such position so that, upon execution of the next tool changing command, the unit moves to the appropriate location. According to other embodiments, the machining program itself is made to store the tool changing positions. This data may be added to the program by an editor on the basis of the information found in the memory, or the data may be added in the initial creation of the program. The data on tool changing positions is then decoded from the machining program when the program is read or executed.
