    • A process for displaying a composite object in a markup language page, which comprises at least two cells with a first cell containing an image and a second cell containing a textual information. The at least two cells are arranged in a table for the purpose of building a composite image wherein said textual information can be separately modified. Each cell is associated with different files in order to produce a composite image having different states in accordance with the position of the cursor relative to said object. A first state—the normal state—corresponds to a first file. A second state corresponds to a second file for a state where the cursor is moving over the object. At last a third file is used for a third state which corresponds to the selection of the object by the cursor.

    • A backup procedure which performs a systematic analysis of the different elements of the configuration, for the purpose of transforming them into a corresponding set of backup objects. Backup objects include files, directories, volume names or labels, security attributes (Access Control Lists in Windows NT), as well as OS-specific markers which are dependent on a specific file, such as, for instance an entry in the FAT for MS-DOS. Each backup object is being systematically analysed and sent to a remote server with its identification, attributes, signature and content the backup process takes advantage of the HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP) and each backup object is being encapsulated within a HTTP or HTTPS POST or PUT request which is transmitted to a remote server. The backup procedure is associated with a process for automatically creating a bootable CDROM having a bootable partition comprising a set of files systems driver for controlling different file system types, such as NTFS, FAT, FAT32, i-NODE, but also CDFS, and an executable file for carrying out the automatic re-establishment of the backup objects corresponding to a user's configuration.

    • A method for identifying a device such as a computer in a network includes providing a storage containing a plurality of entries, each entry corresponding to a device connected to the network and comprising a plurality of stored attributes for the device, receiving from the device a set of current attributes associated to the device, for each among a plurality of entries in the storage, generating a similarity metric between current attributes of the received set and respective stored attributes comprised in the entry, the similarity metric taking into account both matches between respective attributes and mismatches between respective attributes. A candidate entry is determined for which the higher similarity metric is obtained. If the similarity metric is higher than a given recognition threshold, identifying the device as the one to which the candidate entry corresponds.

    • A process for distributing through a network an electronic message associated with a list of recipients, said process comprising the iterated application of the steps of: a) extracting from said list a first sublist and a second sublist of recipients; b) identifying a recipient within said first sublist which can be addressed via said network, and c) transmitting said electronic message and said first sublist to said identified recipient for onward distribution; and d) applying said steps (a) to (d) to said second sublist of recipients. The process can also comprise receiving the message and a list of recipients for onward distribution. The above described process can thus be carried out in a plurality of nodes of the network upon receipt at each node of the message and an associated first sublist generated in another of the nodes until the message has been transmitted to all recipients on the list.
