    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bacterium capable of producing astaxanthin and free from thick cell wall such as yeast and algae, a bacterial culture product produced by using the bacterium, an astaxanthin-containing composition and a method for producing astaxanthin by using the bacterium.
      SOLUTION: The invention provides an Erythrobacter genus bacterium capable of producing a composition containing ≥35 mass% astaxanthin; Erythrobacter JPCC M strain having a 16SrDNA base sequence comprising a specific base sequence or a base sequence having ≥96% homology to the above base sequence; a bacterial culture product obtained by culturing the bacterium; an astaxanthin-containing composition collected from the bacterium; and an astaxanthin producing method having a step to culture the bacterium belonging to Erythrobacter genus, wherein the bacterium has an astaxanthin productivity to give an astaxanthin content of ≥35 mass% in the total pigments produced by the bacterium.
