    • In order to improve a high-frequency excited gas laser with longitudinal flow, comprising a discharge channel having laser gas flowing therethrough in a direction of flow and high-frequency electrodes arranged on both sides of the discharge channel for generating a high-frequency discharge transversely to the direction of flow, such that a high output can be achieved with this laser in a manner which is, constructionally, as simple as possible and that its design is, at the same time, as compact as possible, it is suggested that the discharge channel comprise a plurality of channel elements, the channel axes of which are aligned parallel to one another in the direction of flow, that the channel elements be arranged beside or next to one another in a direction of installation transverse to the direction of flow and that the channel elements have a cross section having a greater extension in a first cross direction at right angles to the direction of flow than in a second cross direction extending at right angles to the first cross direction and to the direction of flow.

    • A novel aluminum magnesium hydroxy fatty acid compound is disclosed having a general formula, Al.sub.x Mg.sub.y (OH).sub.3x+2y-z R.sub.z.nH.sub.2 O, wherein R is at least one aliphatic monocarboxylic acid group having the formula RCOO.sup.- and comprising from 12 to 22 carbon atoms, and wherein x=2, 2.ltoreq.y.ltoreq.10, z=2, and n is an integer greater than zero. The compound is prepared by a process including placing water and a salt which is one of an alkali metal salt or an ammonium salt of at least one aliphatic monocarboxylic acid having from 12 to 22 carbon atoms in a reactor fitted with heating and stirring means. The salt is dissolved by intensive stirring and by heating to a temperature ranging from 20.degree. to 90.degree. C. to provide a salt solution. The pH of the salt solution in the reactor is maintained at a pH of at least 8 to provide an alkaline solution. A solution comprised of water, an aluminum salt, and a magnesium salt is added to the reactor under constant stirring to cause reaction and precipitation of a precipitate comprised of the novel aluminum magnesium hydroxy fatty acid compound. The precipitate is separated and washed with substantially demineralized water until substantially no anions of the aluminum salt and the magnesium salt are detectable. A lipogel with improved thermal stability is formed using the novel compound and organic lipophilic compounds which are liquid at room temperature, and is useful in cosmetic or pharmaceutical preparations.

    • In an axial flow gas laser, in particular a high-power CO.sub.2 laser with DC excitation, at least one discharge tube (1) of dielectric material, in particular quartz glass, is provided. First and second connection bodies (E1, E2) are sealingly connected to the discharge tube (1) or to connection necks branching off from it, in each case in the vicinity of an electrical and laser gas connection point, forming a connection chamber (K1, K2), and are connected to laser gas inlet lines (4) or outlet lines (9). The first connection body (E1) is connected to the anode potential and the second connection body (E2) to the cathode potential of a direct voltage source. The first and second connection bodies (E1, E2) are disposed with tubular axial spacing from one another, so that the discharge tube (1), with its gas chamber, forms a discharge path between the anode and cathode potentials. In accordance with the invention, the discharge tube (1) is provided over an axial portion of its jacket, which is located inside the connection chamber (K1) of the first connection body (E1), with at least one gas inflow opening (2). An electrode pin (6) the tip (6a) of which extends up to a point shortly before or in the wall region of the gas inflow opening (2) is inserted into the wall of the first connection body (E1).
