    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase a light extraction amount of a cascade type organic electroluminescent device. SOLUTION: In the organic electroluminescent unit includes (a) an anode, (b) a cathode, and (c) a plurality of organic electroluminescent units which are arranged between the anode and the cathode and includes at least a hole transport layer, an electron transport layer, and an electroluminescent band area formed between the hole transport layer and the electron transport layer, and in which a physical space between the neighboring electroluminescent band areas is larger than 90 nm, and (d) in a coupling unit arranged between the neighboring organic electroluminescent units, this is the cascade type organic electroluminescent device constituted so that a transparent p-n joint structure is formed by including an n-type doped organic layer and a p-type doped organic layer in this order, and furthermore, so that each of the doped organic layers includes a coupling unit having a resistivity higher than 10 Ω-cm.
