摘要： An apparatus is provided which includes a substantially flat base defining a pocket insert configured and dimensioned for receiving the treatment head module and a hydrogel in alignment with the treatment head module for preventing the attenuation of the ultrasonic waves propagated from the treatment head module during ultrasonic treatment. A portion of the apparatus which comes into contact with the patient is provided with an adhesive covered by a peel-off backing. During use, the peel-off backing is removed to expose the adhesive and the apparatus is affixed to the patient. The treatment head module is then inserted within the pocket insert. The pocket insert securely maintains the treatment head module in position without over compressing soft or injured tissue. In another embodiment thereof, the apparatus includes a hydrogel having an adhesive on opposing sides and peel-off backings covering each adhesive. During use, the peel-off backings are removed to expose each adhesive. One of the adhesives is used to affix the apparatus to the patient, while the other adhesive is used to affix the treatment head module thereon.

摘要： A bone prosthesis (10) includes a first portion for engaging a first bone segment and at least one channel (34) disposed within the first portion for propagating acoustic energy through the channel to the first bone segment. The channel includes an interior reflective surface which defines a resonating chamber disposed through the first portion which propagates acoustic energy to the first bone segment to stimulate bony ingrowth. The present disclosure also relates to a method for measuring the stability of an implanted prosthesis which includes the steps of: a) providing a source (11) having a probe for sending and receiving signals and a comparator for comparing and analyzing prior signal data with newer signal data; b) placing the probe (15) adjacent the prosthesis; c) transmitting an initial signal through the probe to the prosthesis; d) receiving a return signal from the probe after the signal propagates and returns through the prosthesis; e) storing the return signal data; f) repeating steps (a) through (e); and g) comparing and analyzing stored return signal data to determine implant stablilization.

The apparatus (10) includes at least one ergonomically constructed ultrasonic transducer configured to cooperate with a placement module or strip for placement in proximity to the carpal tunnel or hand/wrist injury. The apparatus (10) also utilizes a portable, ergonomically constructed main operating unit (12) constructed to fit within a pouch (18) worn by the patient. In operation, at least one ultrasonic transducer positioned adjacent the carpal tunnel or hand/wrist injury is excited for a predetermined period of time. To ensure that at least one ultrasonic transducer is properly positioned, and to insure compliance with a treatment protocol, a safety interlock (70) is provided to prevent inadvertent excitation.

摘要： Ultrasound bandages (10) and ultrasound transducer array bandages are provided herein to accelerate the healing of wounds by positioning the ultrasound bandages (10) and ultrasound transducer array bandages adjacent to a wound and generating ultrasonic pulses. The ultrasound bandages (10) generally include (a) a backing layer (12), (b) an adhesive layer (14) applied to, and substantially coextensive with, the backing layer (12), and (c) a transducer material (16) disposed on at least a portion of the adhesive layer (14). The ultrasound transducer array bandages generally include (a) a backing layer (13), (b) an adhesive layer applied to, and substantially coextensive with, the backing layer, and (c) an array comprising a plurality of transducer materials arranged in adjacent relation to define spaces therebetween, the array being disposed on at least a portion of the adhesive layer. The resulting ultrasound bandages (10) and ultrasound transducer array bandages allows for medical therapeutic applications as promoting the healing of wounds such as abrasions, lacerations, incisions and ulcers at any section or multiple sections of the human anatomy with the ultrasound bandages (10) and ultrasound transducer array bandages being conveniently discarded after each application and a new bandage then being applied for the next application.

摘要： A method and kit for therapeutically treating bone and tissue injuries using ultrasound. The method includes the steps of introducing an ultrasound contrast agent into the patient, preferably, the patient's blood stream, and impinging ultrasonic waves in proximity to an injury. The ultrasound contrast agent facilitate in lowering the cavitation threshold, i.e., the energy required for the cavitation, to a level attainable by the ultrasonic waves to induce acoustic intracellular microstreaming to accelerate the healing process. The method further includes the steps of maintaining the resonance bubble frequency of the microbubbles of the ultrasound contrast agent from 0.5 MHz to 10 MHz; maintaining the acoustic transmit frequency of the ultrasound waves from 10 kHz to 10 MHz; and maintaining the acoustic spatial average-temporal average (SATA) intensity of the ultrasonic waves from 5 to 500 mW/cm 2 . The kit of the invention includes at least one ergonomically constructed ultrasonic transducer ( 16 ) configured to cooperate with a placement module ( 14 ) for placement in proximity to an injury and a portable, ergonomically constructed main operating unit ( 12 ) constructed to fit within a pouch ( 18 ) worn by the patient.
