摘要： The hip joint socket is provided with a peripheral edge or flange in which a plurality of bores are formed. Each bore narrows conically from one side of the peripheral edge towards the free surface of the socket to provide outflow paths for excess bone cement which is displaced during implanting of the socket in a pelvis. The construction in the bores also permits the excess cement to harden into a rivet-like plug to increase the securement of the hip joint socket in the cement bed.

摘要： A prosthetic hip joint comprises a femoral element formed with a ball head and a stem projecting from the head and adapted to be received within the upper end of a femur, and a generally hemispherical socket element adapted to be secured in the ilium at the acetabulum thereof and having an inner surface formed as a generally hemispherical cavity adapted to snugly receive the ball head. The outer surface of the socket element is subdivided at a step into a lower quarter-spherical region having a center of curvature lying above the center of curvature of the ballreceiving cavity, and an upper quarter-spherical region adjoining the lower region and having a center of curvature coinciding with the center of curvature of the ball-receiving cavity. The step between the two quarter-cylindrical regions is formed with a chamfer and both of these regions are formed with a plurality of criss-crossing grooves, in at least one of which is received a metal wire allowing the synthetic-resin socket element to be viewed in an X-ray. The ball head of the femoral element is formed with a neck that is tapered into the stem and forms a pair of shoulders thereon.

摘要： Method and device for providing of information after inserting of a prosthesis in a hip joint comprising prosthesis tem (7) and a prosthesis cup (1) and based on this information the position of the components of a hip prosthesis is provided. The prosthesis stem (7) and the prosthesis cup (1), or the part of the body in which the prosthesis are provide are provided with markers (2, 3, 4, 8, 8') that are shown on a X-ray picture. The X-ray picture is downloaded in a image-processing program wherein assistance lines (10, 11, 13, 14, 12), in order to determine the position of the prosthesis components, is downloaded manual or automatic in the image-processing program and the assistance lines (10, 11, 13, 14, 12) is brought in coincidence with the images of the markers on the X-ray picture. Thereater are the angels respectively for the prosthesis components by a calculation unit in the image-processing unit.

摘要： Prosthetic devices for repair of replacement of bone structure in a living body, and methods of orthopedic repair which employ such devices. The orthopedic devices comprise a substrate and a pyrolytic carbon coating on the substrate, which pyrolytic carbon coating is compatible with living tissue and which has a density of at least about 1.5 grams per cubic centimeter. Examples of suitable substrates are those which have a modulus of elasticity approximating that of natural bone such as polycrystalline carbon, and fiber aggregates such as carbon fiber aggregates and refractory wire metal screens. The pyrolytic carbon coating of the orthopedic devices may be polished to provide an effective wear surface, while the surface roughness of the as-deposited coating may be employed to achieve a bond with natural bone tissue. The pyrolytic carbon coating is preferably isotropic and may be doped with a suitable carbide-forming element, such as silicon, to provide additional structural strength and wear resistance.
