摘要： A metal honeycomb body with intertwined, at least partly structured layers of sheet metal (3, 4) which are curved and especially rather involute. The body has at least three reversal lines (2a, 2b, 2c, ... or 7a, 7b, 7c, ...) in an outer annular region (6) and an inner annular region (5) about which the sheet metal layers (3, 4) are intertwined with directions of curvature changing from outside to inside. Such a body can be produced from a hollow winding by star-shaped deformation and the subsequent intertwining of the external about the internal sections and is therefore very easily manufactured. A long electrical conductor can also be integrated as a measuring probe or heat conductor. The mechanical advantages of a honeycomb with a plurality of curved layers of sheet metal running from the inside to the outside are retained. Such a honeycomb body is therefore to be preferred as exhaust gas catalyst support in motor vehicles.

摘要： In the invention a catalyst support (6) and/or a diesel soot filter (7) is fitted in a second section (2) of an exhaust pipe joined to a first section (1) with an approximately right-angled bend. The special shape of the intermediate member (4) connecting the two sections forces the exhaust gas to adopt a helical flow, causing an oblique flow around the support. This evens out the contact with the support over its cross-section and delays the onset of laminar flow in its channels so that the gas can react more effectively with the catalyst. In addition, supported where appropriate by a special surface structure (41, 42) in the intermediate member (4), a noise damping effect is achieved which facilitates savings on the silencer itself. The total pressure loss occurring in the line is thus reduced to the minimum.

摘要： An electrically conductive honeycomb body, in particular a catalyst support, can be directly heated electrically and comprises a temperature-dependent resistor for functional control and adjustment. To obtain a suitable electrical resistance between 0.03 and 2 ohms, preferably between 0.1 and 1 ohm, the honeycomb body (12) is subdivided electrically, cross-sectionally and/or axially, by gaps and/or electrically insulating intermediate layers (128) or coatings so that at least one electrical current path having the desired resistance is obtained. A honeycomb body (120) of this type can be used as a catalyst support in motor vehicles and heated before and/or after starting. It can therefore reach the operating temperature required for a catalytic reaction more rapidly, which reduces the exhaust gas emission as early as the starting phase of a motor vehicle. The overall performance of the catalyst can be monitored by continuous or periodic measurement of the electrical resistance of the honeycomb body, and the heating can be suitably adjusted if necessary.

摘要： A honeycomb body with internal flow-conducting surfaces, in particular a catalyst body for motor vehicles, consists of layers of metal sheets (1, 2) which are structured, at least in partial regions, and which form the walls of a plurality of fluid-conducting channels (74a, 74b). Openings (72) in at least some of the channel walls are associated with flow-conducting surfaces (71) which run obliquely to the channel wall. By means of these flow-conducting surfaces (71), partial flows of the fluid in the individual channels (74a, 74b) can be diverted into neighbouring channels. This results in reduced boundary layer effects and increased overall contact between the fluid and the channel walls. In addition, a uniform flow profile in the honeycomb body can be obtained by systematic arrangement of flow-conducting surfaces (71). When the honeycomb body is used as a support for catalytically active material in exhaust gas systems in motor vehicles, the weight and service life of the material are improved, as well as the reaction rate and the starting behaviour.

摘要： In a process for monitoring the performance of a catalyst (8) for exhaust gases of an internal combustion engine (1) with an exhaust gas system (5, 8, 9), the temperature of two spatially separate cross-sectional regions in the exhaust gas system is measured by temperature sensors (TF1, TF2; TF1', TF2') and monitored by an electronic monitoring device (10). At least one part of the volume of the catalyst which is essential for the catalytic conversion of noxious substances in the exhaust gas is located between the two measurement points. The temperature sensors (TF1, TF2) do not measure discretely but integrally over a representative portion of the cross-sectional region. The temperature measurement points can be integrated in the catalyst (8), which can also preferably be heated electrically (17, 18). In a properly functioning system, the exothermic reaction in the catalytic conversion of noxious substances in the exhaust gas brings about a certain temperature difference between the two measurement points, which can be monitored. The function of the catalyst (8) and/or engine (1) and/or electronic engine control system (2) can be deduced from the sign and/or absolute value and/or temporal variation of the temperature difference. Preferred field of application: motor vehicles with spark ignition engines with an electronic engine control system.

摘要： Proposed is a honeycomb body with two ends, built at least partlyof sheet-metal structures (7, 8) disposed in layers, the sheet-metal structures forming a multiplicity of channels, running from one end to the other, through which a fluid can flow. The honeycomb body is divided by one or more narrow gaps (9) and/or electrically insulating layers (20) extending from one end to the other in such a way that, in each cross-sectional zone, the electrical conductivity of the honeycomb body is decreased, but at least one continuous, electrically conduction current path is left in the cross-sectional plane of the body. The sheet-metal structures (7, 8) are mounted on mainly metal support structures (4, 5, 13, 14, 15, 16) of which at least part runs inside the honeycomb body and at least sections of which run parallel to the electrically insulating gaps (9) and/or layers (20), or inside these gaps or layers. The support structures (4, 5, 13, 14, 15, 16) are designed to act simultaneously as stabilizers for the gaps (9) and/or as supports for the electrically insulating layers (20). Some (13) of the support structures are connected electrically to each other and to a first terminal contact (11), while others (14) are connected electrically to a second terminal contact (12), in such a way that large electric currents can be applied through the contacts (11, 12) to the sheet-metal structures (7, 8). The honeycomb body is intended principally for use as a heated catalytic-converter body in motor vehicle exhaust systems in which it will be subjected to high mechanical loads.

To stabilize the entire structure and to prevent extraction of the sheet metal plates (1, 2) from the tubular sheath (7), some of the sheet metal plates (8, 9, 10) are thicker than the others, because these layers (8, 9, 10) are made of thicker sheet metal or a plurality of contiguous thinner sheet metal plates. The thicker sheet metal layers stabilize the entire structure and prevent, in particular, deformation of the tubular sheath due to high internal pressure at elevated temperatures, even in structures of oval or elliptical cross-section.
