The fluoro substituted cyan dye-forming couplers of the invention enhance the image stability of image dye without significantly degrading other photographic properties.

    • The invention relates to a photographic element comprising a light sensitive silver halide emulsion layer having associated therewith one or more dye-forming couplers and a stabilizer compound of formula (I):

      R 1 and R 2 are independently selected from hydrogen or an unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, aryl, alkoxy, aryloxy or amino group or may combine to complete a 5-10 membered heterocyclic ring which may contain in addition to the silicon atom one or more heteroatoms selected from nitrogen, oxygen and sulfur, which ring is unsubstituted or substituted;
      each Z independently represents the atoms necessary to complete a substituted or unsubstituted arene or heteroaromatic ring system;
      X is a single bond or a linking group having a single atom which connects the arene rings or heteroaromatic ring systems; or
      X forms, together with substituents ortho to X on the arene rings or heteroaromatic ring systems, a fused unsubstituted or substituted 5-, 6-or 7-membered ring, which may contain one or two heteroatoms selected from nitrogen, oxygen and sulfur.

      The stabilizer is used to enhance the image stability of the dye formed from a cyan, magenta or yellow dye-forming coupler without significantly degrading other photographic properties.

When a compound of formula (I) is combined in a dispersion with a cyan coupler of formula (II) and a stabilizer of formula (III), the spectral bandwidths are narrowed significantly thereby reducing unwanted absorptions and an outstanding enhanced image stabilization is achieved.

    • A photographic recording material is described which employs a novel nondiffusible compound capable of releasing at least one diffusible magenta dye moiety said compound having the formula:

      (a) X represents the atoms necessary to complete a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring;
      (b) Y represents the atoms necessary to complete a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic fused ring;
      (c) CAR represents a ballasted carrier moiety capable of releasing the diffusible magenta dye moiety as a function of development of a silver halide emulsion layer under alkaline conditions;

      When a compound of formula (I) is combined in a dispersion with a cyan or magenta dye-forming coupler of formula (II), it unexpectedly de-aggregates the dyes formed, reducing the unwanted absorptions in the spectra of the azomethine dyes and improving colour reproduction.
