    • A ring mechanism includes a chassis and a hinge blade coupled to the chassis. An actuator coupled to the chassis moves the hinge blade between a first position and a second position. A ring half coupled to the hinge blade is positioned in a closed position when the hinge blade is in the first position, and an open position when the hinge blade is in the second position. A dampening member is positioned at least partially between the inner surface of the chassis and the actuator to prevent at least a portion of the actuator from directly engaging the inner surface of the chassis during movement of the actuator between the first and second positions. A locked state indicator indicates to the user whether the ring mechanism is in a locked position or an unlocked position. The dampening member can function as the lock state indicator and vice versa.

    • A personal binding machine for assembling a preformed coil into a stack of prepunched sheets which includes a loading tube assembly that properly orients the coil to be driven into the stack of sheets, a drive assembly which drives the coil into the stack of sheets, and crimping assemblies for crimping the ends of the coil once inserted into the sheets. The drive assembly includes a three surface contact system having a coil guide substantially adjacent the edge of the stack of sheets, a drive roller and an idler roller. While the coil guide is stationary within the housing, the location of the drive and idler rollers may be adjusted via a camming system to accommodate various coil sizes. The crimping assemblies include a cradle and blade mechanism wherein the blade presses an end of the coil into a cradle to bend or crimp the end. The drive roller may alternately be directly accessed to manually drive the coil through a stack of sheets.

    • A cordless electric device has a main body portion extending along an axis and a handle portion extending at an obtuse angle with respect to the axis, the handle portion receiving therein along a second axis a battery pack. The device has a two-part housing, with the parts respectively defining the front and rear of the body and handle portions. The front housing part has latching shoulders respectively disposed on the opposite sides thereof, with each defining a first latching surface disposed substantially parallel to the first axis, while the battery pack has two identical latching members respectively disposed on opposite sides thereof and each resiliently displaceable between latching and release positions, each latching member having two second latching surfaces thereon in a V-shaped configuration, so that one of said second latching surfaces on each of said latching members is disposed substantially parallel to the first axis for engagement with the first latching surface of the corresponding latching shoulder to latch the battery back in place on the device. The latching members are interchangeable and molding of the forward housing part is facilitated.
