    • Acoustic energy is applied to a pair of locations spaced about a chamber, to control rotation of an object levitated in the chamber. Two acoustic transducers applying energy of a single acoustic mode, one at each location, can (one or both) serve to levitate the object in three dimensions as well as control its rotation. Slow rotation is achieved by initially establishing a large phase difference and/or pressure ratio of the acoustic waves, which is sufficient to turn the object by more than 45.degree., which is immediately followed by reducing the phase difference and/or pressure ratio to maintain slow rotation. A small phase difference and/or pressure ratio enables control of the angular orientation of the object without rotating it. The sphericity of an object can be measured by its response to the acoustic energy.

    • An acoustic levitation system is provided for acoustically levitating an object, by applying a single frequency from a transducer into a resonant chamber surrounding the object. The chamber includes a stabilizer location (29, FIG. 2) along its height, where the side walls of the chammber are angled so they converge in an upward direction. When an acoustic standing wave pattern is applied between the top and bottom of the chamber, a levitation surface (28) within the stabilizer does not lie on a horizontal plane, but instead is curved with a lowermost portion (31) near the vertical axis of the chamber. As a result, an acoustically levitated object (30) is urged by gravity towards the lowermost location (31) on the levitation surface, so the object is kept away from the side walls of the chamber.

    • The specification discloses a waterbox for applying an aqueous mixture, such as a starch mixture, to a web in a calender stack. The waterbox includes a spillway disposed adjacent a calender stack having a bottom plate, substantially parallel front and rear walls, and substantially parallel first and second end walls. The waterbox also includes an elongate lip for which extends from adjacent the front wall of the reservoir to a position adjacent a roll of the calender stack to form a pond area. A weir is provided for controlling the amount of mixture in the pond. Additionally the waterbox includes an inlet or a plurality of inlets for introduction of mixture into the pond area located below the pond level.

    • A breast pump includes a housing, a suction unit mounted in the housing, a rippled funnel for engaging a mother's breast, and an adapter for interconnecting same. The adapter is configured to sealingly support the funnel, frictionally sealingly support a bottle for collecting milk, and frictionally sealingly engage the housing. The adapter includes a tubular protrusion/stem defining a passageway for communicating air from the bottle to the suction unit to create a vacuum in the bottle. A pair of "O" rings are positioned on the protrusion to sealingly and stably engage the housing. A check valve is located in the protrusion to prevent back flow of milk from the bottle to the suction unit. The housing includes an outer surface defining a hand grip, and vacuum adjustment controls including a wheel for fine vacuum adjustment and a vacuum releasing push bottom are conveniently positioned on the hand grip. The housing includes a shroud that protects the bottle and that forms a stable arrangement that the entire unit will stand upright on a table. The shroud defines a battery holder and further includes a jack for mateably engaging an AC/DC transformer outlet for optional operation of the motor in lieu of batteries. The hand grip and the battery placement provide an optimal center of gravity located below the hand grip so that the breast pump can be easily, comfortably and securely held. The funnel includes three ring-shaped undulations providing increased comfort, size adaption and functionality to the funnel.

    • An earplug dispenser to deliver one or two earplugs from a bulk supply which includes a front housing having an access door, a rear housing and a removable cover. Situated inside of the rear housing is a hopper having an opening with a central tab. A chute is located inside the front housing and has a trough which terminates slightly below the lower edge of the access door. A conveyor member, attached to a supporting extrusion member includes a pair of rollers which are journalled one above the other, a belt mounted on the rollers having a series of carriers and a means for rotating the rollers. As the rollers are rotated, the carriers are elevated through the hopper of earplugs picking up an earplug and dispensing it down the chute to the trough. Earplugs are easily removed through the access door.
