    • Mechanism for a lock bolt assembly of the kind including a housing, a bolt mounted on the housing for movement into and out of a strike engaging position, an actuator rotatably mounted on the housing, and a drive connection between the actuator and the bolt whereby operation of the actuator causes movement of the bolt. The drive connection includes an override clutch which can be caused to adopt either an engaged condition or a disengaged condition by operation of a key operated lock. In the engaged condition the actuator is drivably connected to the bolt, whereas in the disengaged condition that connection is broken. The clutch operates to resist rotation of the actuator when in the disengaged condition, but that resistance can be overcome by forced operation of the actuator after which the actuator can be rotated freely relative to other parts of the mechanism.

    • A deadbolt assembly of the kind in which a deadbolt is mounted on a housing for linear movement between inoperative and inoperative positions in which the deadbolt engages with and does not engage respectively, a strike. An actuator is rotatably mounted on the housing and is drivably connected to the actuator through a drive plate which rotates in response to operation of the actuator, and a drive pin is secured to the plate at a position radially outwards of the rotational axis of the plate. The pin locates within a non-circular hole provided in the deadbolt and reacts against edges of that hole to cause the deadbolt movement. The pin moves along an arcuate path between each of its two extreme positions, and at each of those positions the pin lies on a straight line which extends substantially parallel to the direction of movement of the deadbolt and which substantially intersects the rotational axis of the drive plate. Both the deadbolt and the strike can be made from steel or other strong metal.

    • An operator for hinged windows and being of the kind including a chain which can flex in one direction only and which provides the support whereby the window is held open. Movement of the chain into and out of the operator housing is controlled by a sliding actuator which is moveable along an elongate guide track between two extreme positions corresponding to the window closed and fully opened positions respectively. The actuator can be retained in any selected position between the two extremes by engagement between a spring loaded detent and a toothed rack. The detent is carried by the actuator and the rack is fixed relative to the guide track. Release of the detent is effected by moving a lever connected to the detent against a fixed handle of the actuator and the actuator can be moved along the guide track while the lever and handle are so engaged. When the actuator is in the window closed position, the detent can be moved into a camming and locking recess by separation of the lever and handle and engagement of the detent with that recess causes an associated window to be drawn firmly into the closed position and also positively locks the actuator in the window closed position.

    • Means for attaching a furniture plate to a side surface of a door including an elongate tension member which is secured at one end to the plate and projects laterally from a rear surface of that plate. The opposite end portion of the tension member has an upstanding lip and a camming surface of that lip faces towards the rear surface of the plate. A camming member is located within the door body and is movable along a path parallel to the door side surface, and actuating means which is accessible from the front edge of the door is operable to cause movement of the camming member. When the camming member is moved in one direction along the aforementioned path it engages with the lip camming surface so as to move the tension member in a direction such as to draw the furniture plate rear surface against the door side surface. A single camming member can engage and influence each of two tension members which extend into the door body from respective opposite sides of the door.

    • A cylinder lock having a plurality of plate-like tumblers, each of which is carried by the lock barrel to rotate therewith and each being adapted to locate within a respective locking recess provided in the lock body and thereby hold the barrel against rotation relative to the body. The tumbler plates are movable laterally relative to the barrel axis so as to be capable of removal from their respective locking recesses and thereby free the barrel for rotation. A locking pin interconnects the tumbler plates so that they move in unison between their barrel locking and release positions, and a plurality of rotatable discs interacts with that pin to control its ability to move radially inwards and thereby free the tumbler plates from their locking recesses. Each disc has a peripheral notch which must be located adjacent the locking pin to allow the aforementioned radial inward movement.
