    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reliability enhancing measure that assumes a situation that a plunger head is detached from a plunger in a fuel supply pump.SOLUTION: In a fuel supply pump 1, when an imaginary situation, in which a plunger head 19 is separated from a plunger 13 and a cam 22 is continuously revolved while being in a quiescent relatively with respect to an abutting surface 31 and abutted thereon, is assumed, first recesses 38a, 38b are formed in cam chamber forming faces 37a, 37b so that the plunger head 19 is not abutted on the cam chamber forming faces 37a, 37b in each imaginary situation. Thus, the plunger head 19 is separated from the plunger 13, and integrated with a cam ring 23, and not abutted on the cam chamber forming faces 37a, 37b even when being reciprocated in the third direction. Therefore, in the fuel supply pump 1, the reliability can be enhanced, assuming the situation that the plunger head 19 is separated from the plunger 13.

Thus, it becomes unnecessary to avoid an interference with a plurality of fuel passages provided in the pump housing 3a or to consider the deformation of the internal shape of a low pressure pump cover 53, when machining and forming the mounting hole 70a. This sufficiently improves the machinability of the mounting hole 70a.
