    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spark plug for an internal combustion engine which has long life and excellent in fire leap properties.SOLUTION: A spark plug for an internal combustion engine comprises: a cylindrical housing 2; a cylindrical insulator 3 held at the inner side of the housing 2; a center electrode 4 held at the inner side of the insulator 3 so that a tip protrudes; and a ground electrode 5 connecting with the housing 2 and forming a spark discharge gap 11 between itself and the center electrode 4. The ground electrode 5 includes a protruding part 51 formed so as to protrude toward the center electrode 4. The protruding part 51 has a facing surface 511 formed by forming a plating layer 12 on the highest surface protruding to the spark discharge gap 11, and a base material 50 of the ground electrode 5 is exposed on a side surface 512 which is a surface of the protruding part 51 and provided around the facing surface 511.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spark plug for an internal combustion engine excellent in productivity and thermal resistance, and to provide a manufacturing method thereof.
      SOLUTION: The spark plug 1 for an internal combustion engine has an attachment fitting 2, an insulator 3, a center electrode 4, and a ground electrode 5. The ground electrode 5 is fixed to the attachment fitting 2 and has a convex part 510 formed by making a portion of the ground electrode 5 project toward the center electrode 4 in a facing surface 51 which is a surface of the ground electrode 5 on a center electrode 4 side, and a recess 520 formed from a ground electrode rear surface 52 which is a surface opposite to the facing surface 51 on the ground electrode 5 toward the facing surface 51. The convex part 510 is placed so that a line extending from its axis passes through a region where the recess 520 is formed. The spark plug 1 satisfies the relationship of S1≥s, where S1 is an area of an opening of the recess 520 and s is an average area of a cross section of the convex part 510 orthogonally crossing an axis direction of the spark plug 1.

      SOLUTION: The sparking plug 1 comprises a mounting bracket 4, an insulating insulator 2, a center electrode 3, and a grounding electrode 5. The leg part 22 comprises a straight portion 221 continuously extending from the outer peripheral step part 21 with its outer peripheral surface in parallel with the center axis M of the plug and a tapered portion 222 whose diameter is reduced as getting from the tip of the straight portion 221 towards further tip side. The cross-sectional shape of the outer peripheral surface of the tapered portion 222 is linear or curved convex outward when cut with a plain including the central axis M of the plug.
